I am so tired of trying to appear competent at work. I hate having to be ON all day and then coming home and crashing from having to be ON all day. I hate having to appear like something I'm really not. I hate having to dress up and look and act successful all day. I'm in high end sales and I'm only in it for the money as luckily I'm paid very well. I can't keep this pretense up but I can't think of any other jobs I can make this kind of money doing without having umpteen degrees. I'm such a fake. Such a big fake. And I'm tired of it.

Hi Canadagirl,
Career success is not my strong suit, but feeling unhappy about my job, sadly is.
Sales does pay well, but it also burns people out and you sound like you have had it. Can you look at your finances and see what the minimum you would need to survive for a certain amount of time is? We could live on X for X months?
I am so miserable at my current job (got caught reading your post today which is why I'm responding at 10:30 p.m. from home) that even though I am low paid, I'd take a lower paying job if I knew it would use my brain and lead to something better.
I so know where you're coming from. I give you credit for your acting skills. Acting competent and happy is hard and tiring.

Ya I hear ya Poet, I am sorry you feel miserable at your job. It can sure be miserable working at something you don't really WANT to be doing, when you have the brain to do something else - something that you know you would be good at, given the opportunity. It must be very frustrating for you to feel you are under-employed.
For myself, I need this type of salary for the darn schoolage daycare costs. It really eats into my salary for the before and after school care here, it's ridiculous how much we have to pay for decent care here in Canada.
What kind of work would you like to do, if you had the chance?

Hi Canadagirl,
I want to be a fairy princess! Or a movie star! Or...
I'm taking paralegal classes. It's an avenue I haven't tried, having given up permanently on jobs for writing or proofreading. I can't take much more of my current boring job and have dumb down my resume in hope of getting an entry level job at a legal firm. Believe it or not they pay around what I'm getting now. Is that a slap in the face or what? Sigh.
Sorry to jump on your thread. Sorry school age care is so costly. I think it is in the states, too, but I don't know, my cats can stay home alone.
Take care.

Ouch ! (dumbing down your resume).
Keep trying for the jobs you really want Poet. You are intelligent and capable. You just need someone to give you that one break, where you can get your foot in the door for that writing job. Don't give up. You are still young!Paralegal courses can't hurt. At least you are moving forward and continuing to exercise your brain. That is a good thing right? No education is wasted. Keep trying, keep looking for the jobs you want, don't give up.
(PS I don't mindif you or anyone jumps on my thread. Glad to hear from you.)

Its caused me lots of jobs. the best scenario would be to get some easy fast food job, but I also have to annoying drivig personality to do better and succeed. bleh.
