I am new here. There is probably a graphic saying new next to my name...Anyways, after being a bystander of these boards I decided to no longer be on the outside looking in anymore. I have been taking clonazepam around > 7 months, the "greater" half of it taking 2-3 mg/day. I firmly believe it has caused me to be moderately depressed over the last few months. I guess I will write a little about my background. I was always the "sketchy" kid in school but never felt scared around people to a point of panic. When I turned 18, something I recognized as irrational was creeping up on me as I thought it was a phase and would go away. It didn't. In any situation with people, I feel facial twitches, etc. etc. but not a few of the mild symptoms I read SA is all about...like "sweaty palms"...God, I wish that were the case! I could live with that! I constantly think, and I am fearful of getting the boot for saying this, that some people (not on this board) fake this disorder. Much like Add, which I was diagnosed with in 2nd grade (before it was "cool.") I have started brand name NARDIL, 3 15mg's a day as I have been a guinea pig responding to nothing. I started it on the 27th to be exact; ceasing adderall right before :( Has anyone been in this situation before? I have severe Social Anxiety Disorder and ADHD that I (think) I can deal with as long as I get the SA squared away. By this situation to be exact, I mean depressed (or not) and addicted to klonopin with the intent to withdraw in the very near future while starting (new or old) Nardil. Does Nardil increase anxiety at first, meaning I should keep up (or maybe, hopefully not, increase) the kpin? Would it be safe to start withdrawing (very, very slowly whilst follwing that benzo uk site) right away? Another important question...I was on Adderall XR 50 mg's a day. I have seen many posts here about the safe combination of dex and Nardil, but I can't seem to find any(thing) on/by patients that were already on a high dose of a stimulant. What would come of that? I do not plan to take a high dose of any stim with an MAOI but I'd like to know if I will notice anything (hopefully not hypertension) with a reduction in dosage with a certain stim tolerance. Any input on anything in the above novel would be greatly appreaciated.

I mean the 17th to be exact is when I started the Nardil.

So you've been on the Nardil for 1 week?
It may take 2-4 weeks for Nardil to take full effect. In addition, you may be experiencing some withdrawal from abrupting discontinuing the Adderall XR.
With regard to the Klonopin, perhaps you could wait a few weeks until the Nardil kicks in before trying to reduce the benzodiazepine dosage.

Good advice and thank you for the quick response. I had been suffering from this depression for months whereas I just discontinued the Adderall though. I have actually done so many times before, experiencing no withdrawal effects from it. If anyone (or you) else could comment on the augmentation of dex and the subsequent dosage adjustments that'd be appreciated.

Regarding augmenting Nardil with a stimulant, there are reports of this combination being safe and effective, but also one reported fatal reaction in the literature. This combination requires close monitoring and safety precautions. There are definite risks, but also potential for benefit. It's something you and your prescribing doctor could discuss. The fact that you've taken stimulants before doesn't eliminate the risk.
If you and your doctor decide to try augmenting Nardil with a stimulant, my advice would be to NOT use Adderall XR initially. If you have a bad reaction, you don't want it to stay in your system. In my opinion, low dose immediate release Adderall would be a better choice. Probably best to do Nardil monotherapy for several weeks to see how you respond before augmenting. Just my thoughts.

I agree with all of your post and plan on doing all of those. I would rather try dex than adderall tho, fearing the the l-amp and all. Even though your statement of IR being safer than XR is 100% factual, IMHO. But never did I question whether or not augmentation of a stimulant would be safer due to my tolerance. Rather, I questioned a safe dose to "begin" with (after a long trail, of course) if I do in fact bring this up with my pdoc. Provigil was like a sugar pill to me at 200 mg; if that means anything. Thanks for your response.
This is the end of the thread.
