I'm a long time alcoholic addict....Was sober 3 years during which time I got married and had a baby. The baby is 2 years old now and the divorce is almost final. I started using again about 6 months ago, started with a few vicodin here and there....Now I'm up to 100+ mgs of Oxycodone per day plus smoking meth (Meth for only a week). In five days I am going on vacation with my mother. I do not have $ to fund my drug habit during the vacation. I am going to be very sick. Any suggestions for the short term? I will get my butt to twelve step meetings when I get back from vacation. Any suggestions are appreciated greatly!!!!!!!!!

Stop the meth and find *some* opiate.
Doesn't have to be enough.

For the opiate withdrawals, a benzo with a long half-life (ativan, valium) is helpful. Also, clonidine (blood pressure med) is immensely helpful for the acute phase (first week or so). Imodium, gatorade, hot soaks in the tub....

There are online pharmacies that deliver Tramadol overnight without a prescription. It wouldn't be a direct substitute, but with its opiate action could lessen the discomfort enough to function. As for meth, the closest substitutes might be ritalin, adderall, or a very distant substitute wellbutrin. Since it has only been 5 days, that one should give you a hard time in terms of depression for a couple days but should be manageable. I did a two week long slurge of cocaine when younger and quit cold turkey. It was two days of absolute deep depression, but then it went away after that. Even during the worst of it I was still able to do my job at work and push myself through the day. I wanted to die. But it was manageable and I did function. I did a lot of cocaine in those two weeks and hardly slept or ate at all. I was seriously addicted. Really, two days and the worst was behind me.

When you quit the meth IMO you will be very tired and possibly feel very depressed. The w/d from opiates is different- with alot of physical symptoms like pain stomach upset and the runs, etc. If you possibly can, could you get into a detox? They have meds to help you. There is now Suboxone (sp) for opiate w/d that appears to be very effective.
best of luck and prayers
