Cymbalta Withdrawal - Question re: Capsules

Posted by CymVictim on October 18, 2007, at 19:12:43

Hey everyone,

I am trying to "ween" off of Cymbalta and am having trouble. I am presently down to 30 mg tablets, one every other day. I'd like to try to lessen my dosage, so was wondering if anyone has tried opening the capsule. If so, what is the best way to swallow the grains? IS there a way? I can't believe this hell I'm going through and the lack of warning. I will address that when I'm feeling better, but for now, any advice on "weening" to a smaller dosage would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

Myself and others have done this.

As others and myself have actually counted every bead within a capsule, 1mg is approximately 9 to 12 beads. Empty the capsule, count how many beads you need for whatever dose, and then put them in something soft like applesauce or pudding and swallow it without chewing. Each bead is enteric coated to prevent it from be destroyed in stomach acid. It needs to get to the intestines, so don't break any beads with chewing.

I simply stuck my finger in the beads, counted how many on my finger, stuck them on my tongue, and down with water, until I got the right amounts of beads I was aiming for.

I can't believe doctors have us go from 30mg to 0. That is HUGE! That is INSANE! I would like to see them try it just so I could see the look on their face.

Anyway, you can customize your weaning this way to whatever schedule you want. For me it was a reduction of about 2mg per day. The hardest ones are the last 5mg or so, where percentages rather than milligrams play a larger role. There I would drop the dose by 1/2mg a day.

The whole process was so much smoother this way and really went quicker than I expected.

you could also empty a certain number of beads each day and reclose the capsule. it's a bit of work, a little delicate, but works the same, maybe better.

Yes! But more importantly, I'd like to see the President of Eli Lilly counting and swallowing the beads, actually. I may just suggest that to him/her when I am on the other side of this!
