lamictal withdrawal

Posted by heatherann on October 22, 2005, at 14:26:20

has anyone had this type of withdrawal symptom from lamictal: tingling under skin sort of like electricity or when your foot has been asleep; sort of tingling tongue and lips, metalic feeling; sometimes feels like touching a frozen flag pole, almost burns for a split second

If the symptoms you mentioned are indeed due to Lamictal withdrawal, how do you propose to remedy the situation?

these symptoms stopped after about two days and the depression you mentioned in another post hit me strong. that has subsided also - I'm still depressed but I was before I lowered my dose. lots of psychosocial, nutrition and exercise issues to work on - I'm trying. Going to speak with a specialist in ayuervedic medicine soon just to get another perspective on things.

added comment: I'm sure the syptoms are from lamictal withdrawl because I've missed doses in the past due to forgetting to refill the prescription for a couple of days and the same sensations occurred.

I'm extremely happy that you are through the worst of the withdrawal rebound depression. Good luck on your future efforts to attain health.

Be well.

I quit Lamictal cold turkey after 2 and a half years on it and had none of those symptoms.

I am completely depressed and alcohol dependent, yet again, I've been like that before, even while on the Lam.

I going to the Psychology board to get some advice, because I'm sick and tired of this.

I thought Lamictal was it for me, why did I stop taking it, well I wanted to eventually get well on my OWN!!!! I want to feel like I can have a baby and I can' t do that on any kind of meds, so I guess I'll get through this,

Maybe it's like cigarrettes. Who know, I am sick and tired of a chemical induced "happiness" or whatever. I have'nt been happy in 14 years. And that is about 1/2 my life. I know I was happy before.

Every day there is some irritating depression that I feel.

I was going to the Psych board.

Here goes.

So far only one person has identified the same withdrawal symptoms from Lamictal that I described. Anyone with ideas about allergies to meds please pipe in.

I'm posting the following to connect with Catmint - hoping I will catch up with her here or on another board:

Hi Catmint (we grow that here :)

You are not alone and you won't always feel this way. Everything really does pass. Things will get better if you want them too. I promise.

I identify with everything you said. I know about alcohol dependency and there is nothing worse - nothing - than drinking anyway even when I didn't want to anymore - when I didn't want to drink but I had to. I couldn't live. Alcoholics Anonymous saved my life - gave me a choice about whether I pick up a drink or not everyday. I've been sober 14 years.

I want to have a baby and its tearing me up and I don't want to accept that it may not be possible -I can't take it and denial can be a scary thing because its making me defiant - which can lead to recklessly trying to 'do it on my own' which can lead to sickness and drinking - which will lead to death - or wishing i was dead which is not the way i want to live. I'm trying to go about this responsibly...reading your post really helped my perspective. Thanks.

Meet me on the substance abuse board, or email me if you want to talk about drinking or AA or whatever. Where do people talk about having babies? thats a real heavy issue for me.

Take it easy. Love, Heather

Dear Heather,

It was really nice to read your post. Thank you for your support.

I will go over to substance abuse and post over there so we can chat there.

I'm trying to cut back on Lamictal because of side-effects of memory loss, inability to remember words, lethargy (makes it so hard to work).

If I even forget to take my dose for one day,
I get sort of a dizzy, tingling in my head, expecially if I move my eyes to fast.
I also get bad flu-like symptoms that disappear once I remember to take my pills

It sounds a little like Effexor or SSRI withdrawal symptoms.....

Hi. It took me months to get up to 200mg/day of lamictal, increasing 25mg each 2 weeks or so. New shrink cut me directly to 100 mg/day, no taper. For 3 days I felt like I was going to throw up, suddenly, at any moment, starting about 7pm. So today I took an extra 50mg, and the nausea attacks did not come. Coincidence? I'm trying 125mg tomorrow, and if I can tolerate that I'll hold there for 2 weeks then drop to the psych's 100mg/day. If not, I'll stay on 150 for another week or so, then 125. Maybe I'll tell the shrink, maybe not. They get pissy sometimes.
