I have been taking Risperdal for 3 weeks I was on 2 mg but was weeping all the time. I cut myself down to 1mg and began experiencing stomach problems. I saw my psychitrist who then removed me from Risperdal. SInce then my stomach problems have worsened- i've got the runs, i'm hardly eating and my stomach feels like it's doing full time backflips. Ive also had a problem with my legs feeling like they are buzzing and needing to move. I have been prowling my house and running back and forth to the bathroom. I had to take Tylenol PM last night because i had not slept well in several days. My symptoms seem to be worsening instead of easing. I am now on day 4 with zero Risperdal and day 5 since i initially cut my dose.. will this get better soon? I dont have any Risperdal left - i flushed it, so taking a small dose of that to kill the symptoms is not an option... how long will this last? will it get better soon and do i need to call my doc or just tough this out?

It is difficult to say how long your withdrawal symptoms will last, but I don't think it should be more than a week. Few, if any, people here have complained about Risperdal withdrawal, so I'm afraid I can't offer much advice for you.
It would be greatly appreciated, though, if you might continue to share your experiences.
Good luck.

I forgot to mention that Risperdal can cause nervousness and agitation early in treatment. It can even cause a side effect known as akathisia, which is an extremely uncomfortable type of anxiety. Nausea and abdominal pain have been reported. There might be a sort of inertia that any of these side effects has developed that may take more than a few days to dissipate. It really wouldn't be a withdrawal effect per se.
Sometimes, when the G.I. tract is upset by a medication, it takes quite awhile for it to settle down.
I wish I had something more definitive for you.

Yesterday was highly uncomfortable. I went to workout and i could not ride the bike, it seems to make my legs worse. Walking on the treadmill which had worked the previous day only served to aggitate me more. I was able to eat but still having problems running to the bathroom all day. Today the buzzing is mostly in my legs and back. I have a vague feeling of displacement and my skin is very sensative to the touch. This is so weird. I hope it's over soon. I forgot to take my lexapro yesterday and am debating whether or not to take it today

Just so you know, I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms from going off ridperdal. It has been over a week since I went off and the symptoms seem to be getting worse. Someone should look into this.

Hi Fidget!Probably my suggestion is too late for you, but may help others.
I had a big problem with Risperdal. Took 0,50mg for two months, suposedly to attenuate withdrawal symptoms from Klonopin and Trileptal. After two months I read users comments on it at www.askapatient.com and understood the danger. Tried to wean off a little fast, very difficult. Tried slowly, success until 0,30; very slowly then until I got stuck at 0,22. Just impossible to go down. Stayed there for 4 months and a new doc prescribed Phenergan to help. I took 4 x 25mg, starting with 25mg, for a few days, then started a fast taper to zero , 1 months in 3 steps. It was not easy, just possible.
The doc said there is a chemical affinity between the two drugs, so Phenergan displaces risperidone from the receptors and replaces it. It worked for me but of course is not guaranteed to work for everybody. Anyway, anyone wishing to try this should hear his/her doctor.
I hope you are OK by now, Fidget. It´s a nasty drug, isn't it?
Bob
