Hi all
I'm new to this site but would love some input from others going through this stuff. I have been on Neurontin for 8 years. started low but have been steady at 2400 daily most of the 8 years. Welbutrin 300 daily. as well. Doc put me on lamictal 75mg about 7 years ago with the intention of TAKING ME OFF NEURONTIN someday. Since then I have moved and have a new doctor. Because I am still depressed, anxious, have OCD, bipolar. He thinks they aren't working any more (if ever completely) He disagrees with all of the meds I take so we decided to slowly stop the neurontin. Drop 1 pill every 4 days it took about 8 says and my lamictal went up to 150mg.The first couple of days off "Neu" wasn't that bad. After I was off all of it, everything has gotten BAD. Depressed crying sick can not eat dizzy weak confused. Did I mention I started at 100 lbs and now I'm down to 88 lbs how gross is that. I was hospitalized for dehydration last week but still can eat I try but is hurts and makes me so sick. I guess after my life story here my main question is: Does anyone think this is still withdrawl from my the "Neu" or is it the lamictal. Of coarse my doctor is on vacation and if I see the on call doctor they will lock me up in some institution. I've been there, done that. I know I'm not suicidal and I know I just need my doctor to help me to level out my meds. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi sstamp, welcome to Babble!
Well to answer your questions; it seems 'Neu' was working afterall, so how about asking your pdoc to let you go back on it? Another option might be Lyrica, Neurontin's new sibling, given that most people seem to find it even more effective for anxiety and depression than Neurontin. If you have some 'Neu' left over it sounds like a good idea to take a little for now to stop the withdrawal symptoms you're having and allow yourself to recover. It sounds to me as though the withdrawal is not only worsening your mental state, it's also seriously damaging your general health? There is no way this suffering can be justified if you were doing reasonably well on the meds you were taking before. The symptoms you're having sound similar to the withdrawals I suffered when quitting benzos (both Neurontin and benzos act on GABA so I'm guessing there could be some similarity in the withdrawal syndrome).
The withdrawal seems very abrupt given the high dose and the length of time you were taking it, though I'm not familiar with the normal procedures for Neurontin withdrawal. This doesn't sound like typical side effects from the Lamictal to me, it's very much like symptoms you'd get from abrupt Neurontin withdrawal.
I suggest you try taking enough Neurontin to halt the withdrawal until your pdoc gets back (assuming you still have enough), or make a calm, balanced request to the call doctor for a small supply of Neurontin for the reasons above. I don't think they'd want to lock you up if you were to explain things clearly, giving good reasons for your request.
