I started on Ambien CR 8 months ago. Dose started at 6.5mg a night. Then it was increased to 12.5 a night. I've been having noticable short term memory loss, and the ambien just doesn't seem to be working any more. I wake up feeling exhausted and have dark circles under my eyes. The ambien was stopped on Friday.
I also take xanax er .50 (one) before bed as well.
How many nights before I'm able to sleep again?I have tried Lunesta - works ok- but still a hypnotic. Trazadone- never worked for me just gave me a headache. I felt hung over and dizzy the next day.
I also take Welbutrin XR 150MG in the AM.
Please tell me about your experiences with stopping Ambien. I NEVER thought it would be this tough. I need to sleep. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am also wd off Ambien CR as well as several other opiates and Ativan and Xanax. I have not slept in 11 nights more then 1-1.5 hours. The first 8 days no sleep at all. They say that your body will eventually get so tired you will sleep. I am still waiting but I do think it is getting better, at least I hope, since I am sleeping maybe 3-4 hours a night on and off.
I will tell you when I sleep so maybe it will be more helpful.

Yes, I stopped ambien cr cold. It was so damn cold. I was in a sych hospital, and the mfers coldturkeyed me off of longterm klonopin, ambien and massive alcohol.
I'm using someone else's prescription ambien which is about to run out now. I'll sleep when my body says sleep when it's gone.
That's what I did in the hospital after a couple of weeks, I slept and even dreamed.
but my behavior was monitered in the real world there. here i'm on my own.

How are you doing? are you still taking Ambien and do you take anything else? How long have you been taking Ambien? I also have not been able to stop Ambien yet. I am off everything else accept one Ambien at bedtime. I have tried not to take it but I feel so nauseas and my chest gets so tight I can't stand it. I am on day 23 detox and have been able to stop taking withdrawal meds so hope Ambien will follow soon. No9t being able to sleep is horrible and only makes all the other probs worse. Hang in there and keep me posted please.
