CYMBALTA SIDE EFFECTS/WITHDRAWAL

Posted by tjeffries on August 11, 2006, at 3:50:22

Hi guys...I have been taking cymbalta for three weeks now....haven't noticed much difference, except lack of appetite, which is ok, cuz I am very overweight, BUT, i have excessive sweating now, and sexual dysfunction....ugh. Called my psych. she said take it til' Sept. 1st, when I see her next. She also said usually the sweating and sexual stuff does not go away on this drug....so I don't know what to do? Do I keep putting more in my system, or just tell her forget it??? She said I need more than three weeks to see if it works, but if the sweating/sex effects are not going to go away, I don't need that, ya know??? and I am sooooooo scared of withdrawal. I take 30 mg. once a day, how do you taper off of it, when it is a capsule??? Will I get very sick? I am terrified, almost to the point of crying. Will it be worse withdrawing, if I stay on til Sept. 1st? I need opinions, please, help.

Just based on my experience with cymbalta, withdrawal shouldn't be much of a problem after three weeks.

If you've very worried, you should stop, no matter what the pdoc says.

A drug with bad side effects that don't lessen, isn't going to help you--because you'll be miserable about the SE. Even more so, if you're worried about withdrawal.

I would call Dr. back, and ask about how to withdraw. There are twenty mg. capsules, I believe, so you could either go from 30 mg every day to twenty everyday, and then down to twenty every other day. Or do 30 mg. every other day for a week or so-- whichever works.

Still, after only three weeks, there shouldn't have been that much change in your neurotransmitters, therefore discontinuation won't wreak havoc with them as they re-adapt.

Do you have anything like xanax on hand? That, or seroqual, are good at stabilizing, can help with discontinuation, if it is difficult.

But I don't think you have to worry about that at this point.

I went off cymbalta twice. First time from 60mg and I'd been on it a lot longer than you have. So I emptied a little out of the capsules each day. So the dose was smaller. Second time I have bad side effects at 30mg so I stopped it after l0 days. I was relieved to be off it. Love Phillipa

When you are ready to stop cymbalta, you could just stop in cold turkey and see how it goes. If it is real uncomfortable, take a capsule and dump some of it out. You could even carefully count how many beads you dump out of it. 1mg is approximately 10 to 12 beads. Keep dumping more out over time.

Please let me know how it goes. I've been on Cymbalta for 30 days and stopped today. Emotionally, I've been feeling better than in a long time, but extreme weight gain and sweating have made it impossible to continue. I, too, have been on 30 mg (along with 300 WB) so I'd really like to hear if you have any withdrawal effects. I'm hoping that it will go smoothly.
