Thanks jules!Well I am slowly heading off to bed ,,, my FIRST night in 3yrs w/o taking a Remeron... it is soooo strange.. like you say alot of feelings have been coming up.. but yes I agree I must now stay focused on what I have been planning to do for a long long time... I have many many options and ideas to help me cope in positive healthy ways.. and I must say NONE of them include meds.. just the over the counter advil for flu like symptoms, etc... and I still have ativan ... HOwever I am seriously thinking of throwing that one totally out as I havent taken ativan in 2YRS , and I dont plan to take a step backwards... I plan to fall back on acupuncture more if need be for the panic/anxiety part.. Thats just the worse case scenario.. so If i toss the ativan then it will just NOT be an option.... I am going to pray about this one... Through Cognitive training I have learned other ways to cope ... so well the rest is up to me and the Lord...
Thanks for your support so far...
How are u doing by the way??? still OFF meds and Ok??take care

good luck musky!!!

Hi All
Well today is day 1 without remeron... I dont expect much yet as the half life is very long
I did some research and found out the pharamcodynamics of this drug,, its 37hrs for females and 24(might be 26) hrs for males..
So i was right ,.... females metabolize the drug slower .. I kinda slept stressed last night, dont know if it was the fact that I didnt have the drowsiness effect of remeron or my husband getting up in the night or my cat was fighting all hours outside! ha, ha.. or a combo of all,
nevertheless I justremained calm and just tried to deep breath and finally sorta slept... so im kinda tired today, going to try to keep a good sleep schedule while going through this..Good luck to everyone else who is tapering or OFF totally.. It sure is a weird feeling though NOT popping a med before bed>>> and at the same time It feels so good to be FREE of that!!

I hope your withdrawal from Remeron is uneventful. You have certainly been patient enough throughout your tapering period.
Good luck.

hi musky,
i'm still off meds and doing OK. i have some vacation time this summer and the down time is great. my sleep has been pretty good and my mood has been stable. i have been drinking more coffee and i really need to watch it as i feel like it disrupts my sleep patterns sometimes.
in general, so far, so good...i took my last dose 3 months ago! it still feels weird not to take anything at night. and great, too. i like checking on this board...i still appreciate the support.
take care,

Hey Musky:
My last dose was last night on the 26th. I was out of town on business and was in motel and said the hell with it as one day here or there was not going to matter. I slept off and on and didn't feel too bad today. Actually, going from 7.5 to 3.75 the first night was kind of rough. The only thing I took with dinner was advil. I am on some lithium but not much too. I hope I sleep ok tonight as it is the first time in my own bed since Tuesday. Good luck
cashy, jules, keep plugging away. Jules, we are encouraged by your stability. Watch the coffee!
Cheers all

That's AWSOME you are med free!! this truly encourages me all the more... I am day 2 into being off the remeron... so far so good .. again still early in the stage but I am just going one day at a time and really trying to stay focused on positive and not the fear. Its so weird not to take this pill at night,,yet feels good to be FREE.
the first night was kinda stressed sleep, but the last night was better... Im gonna really try to cut back on the caffeine and sugar during this time.. Im also being very religious to keep up my exercise routine as well.take care

good for you!! looks like we are at the same pace in this race of the remeron(lol)... didnt realize you are taking lithium... do u plan to get off that too at some point?? I guess one step at a time is the best.. keep in mind its a long process to get back to normal after getting off remeron.. so far so good with me on day 2 off.
first night sleep was stressed, but the 2nd night better.. I think i was just a little scared taking the last pill that night and excited at the same time.. funny how one can become so emotionally attached to their pills!!! like a security blanket for God's sake(lol)...take care
good luck

Yes, I am on a low dose lithium. It was added years ago as an AD booster. My blood level is sub-theraputic but I am med sensitive so it is hard to know if it helps at all. I do plan to get off of that last after things are stable for a good period of time.
This is my second day off remeron. I am very very fatigued today. Doesn't help I drove 1100 miles Wednesday through Friday either! I don't feel good or bad just down a tad because of the fatigue. I am not going to focus on it too much just relax. I go for acupuncture next week and I think by Friday I will need it.
Sleep is quite broken right now but I do not have that startle anymore just sleep light ya know? I am in it for the long haul but so far this cut in dose is not as bad as from 7.5 to 3.75. Maybe the remeron caused the startle stuff? Good luck Musky and keep us posted.

> hey johnny..
yes yu are right to wean off the lithium later when you are good and stable. I would do the same.
I know what you mean by the startle thing.. I had a litttle bit of it yesterday... just kept calm.
Today is day 3 without Remeron .. so far so good. NO real fatigue... sleep not too bad. I just noticed a bit of headaches , but that could be from anything.. I kinda was down earlier today,,, but i just kept pampering myself with stuff, started a good book, went for a walk, etc.
I go for acupuncture next Wed.. which is perfect timing as I will have been off 1 week by then.
Glad to see you are going to acupuncture too.. It really does help with all of this.. provided you have a good acupuncturist.. I have an awsome one.. He's traditional chinese one and has been in pracitice for over 15yrs... I trust him totally.I am very honest with him and that helps him tailor the treatment specifically for me.
take care

Hi all
Well here goes Day 5 off Remeron...
was a little down this morning,, and had a restless leep... dont know if its just me anticipating w/d or it really is... I think that it is w/d// but I am just carrying on.. Drinking herbal teas at night...chamomile, etc.. Also I am reading positive affirmations... Felt a little dizzy this morning at work and then all of a sudden felt tingly and hot.. then it passed..
Tonight I am in better spirits and am trying to keep a regular bedtime even if i dont fall asleep right away..
It is true though that the Remeron in the lower doeses was more sedating...kinda miss that part, but then I would rather tough this out and get my own sleep patterns back.
Have acupuncture this Wed... I willmention it to him as he adjusts my treatment if you have insomnia... I will NEVER take sleeping pills or the sort again just to sleep...Had my experience with them and I SAY Good riddins to that!!
NO I will keep going...Musky

Hi there Musky/Jules/JohnnyJ,
I think your all doing brilliantly... hang in there, the longer without the remeron, the better it gets... i'm now nearly 4 weeks since my last dose, and although the 2nd and 3rd weeks were tough, very irritable/agitated etc. it seems too be getting easier in the last 3 or 4 days. I'm well into the plenty of water theory, peppermint tea, etc. I've had no coffee in over 10days, and that seems too of helped quite a bit. Sleep is still quite difficult, i manage about 3-4 hours, and am then wide awake with thoughts racing through my head... i guess as time goes by this will ease...
Hang in everybody, and thanks for this thread too give eachother some support etc.
Take it easy.

Well, this day 6 off or remeron and I need some sleep. Feeling it not too bad but not great either. I am taking advil for the head stuff and it feels rather heavy right now. I expcet another few weeks of this and then hopefully a break. Nausea is really bad at times. I just feel like throwing up. I try to eat something when I feel like that and it helps some. Hope I can get a better nights sleep tonight.
Withdrawal sucks and the makers of remeron are bastards.

Hi Cashy... good to hear you are hangin in...
I just sent a post asking jules if he knew if anything about if remeron permanently damages receptors in the brain... I guees Im a little worried ... seems you guys are fine so far... I just hope I wasnt on it too long and that my own brain will not function.
Sorry I was a little more down today... Day 6 off remeron... but I managed with my survival kit of natural healthy stuff.
Mood has been Ok until today, day 6.. but I know this is to be expected and I am hangin in... reminding myself that each hour/day that goes by is healing for me... I have to believe that.
Funny how ones mind starts to wonder when you feel this way... at least thats the way I seem to think... I have to remember that I have so much more tools to use now to combat my emotional stuff,, just got to BElieve it..
Sorry to ramble..
trying to cut back on caffiene(I only drink tea), and have more herbal teas at night. Also I take calcium/magnesium supplements and that is supposed to help with sleep as well.Musky

>Hang in there JOhnny..
Im kinda starting to feel w/d more now too at day 6... mostly some headaches. In the morning Im waking up with a clearer head,, but I feel more anxious thoughts ... then my mood dropped today more than the first 5 days OFF.. some nausea, but not too bad... I find if it does get bad, in the past gingerale really works!!! try this for your nausea. Best to take it flat if you can(no bubbles)... Ive stocked up on it in case I get more nausea.. So far my appetite has been pretty good,,, been tring to eat healthy.
Im just trying to keep distracted from my fears, thoughts.. and try to pay attention to those posts like cashy, jules that are doing better in time... gives me hope..
Sorry to hear you are heavy headed... i havent had to take any Advil yet.... just exercising, stretching, etc.
I have acupuncture app . tomorrow,,, I will let him know about my down mood, and hopefully it will help as it did before when i was tapering.your right the makers of this drug are *ssholes.. and I wish I had never put this drug in my mouth...
OH ya I just remembered if you call heavy head , foggy brain then I guess I have it.. I like wandered around with a fuzzy brain All morning at work today... I just felt like I was in a dream state,..not connected to my body...

keep posting ,,, it sure helps... with this support group.

Hi all
I think I spoke too soon about the physical part of w/d.... Was doing not too bad until today... Nausea and major headaches, tension in back of head and neck.. ALOT... took some advil for the first time.. trying to avoid all drugs as much as possible..
Also feeling tingly, dizzy, etc.. and balance kinda off. just not a great day today.. Real tired too.. I think the body is going through the w/d and trying to recover.
I have started milk thistle detox.. I know when i did this before the first week on it i got headaches.. so this could be part of it.
ALso VERY irritable today, and this wasnt bad before, so I think i am in the midst of this w/d and I hope it gets better. Still sleeping not too bad(Thank God for that at least). For the first time this aft. got some flu like stuff too, but that has passed this evening.. Starting to push the gingerale for the nausea..
Hope you all are doing ok
damn this stuff anyways... I just want to feel good and relaxed and not so tippy tense, etch..
This is day 11 OFF Remeron for me.
I might go back to acupuncture earlier than my scheduled appointment this Friday.. we/ll see how i feel tommorrow.

Well it is day 12 for me. I feel like crap. Starting feeling kind of depressed and I have a heavy head, nausea, balance problems, spaceiness. My ears and eyes are so sensitive. I don't have much anxiety but feel like someone beat my head with a bat. I am irritable and can't think entirely straight. God, do I need the 3.75? Is this W/D? Fatigue is overwhelming. I am just in a fog....

hi everyone,
johnnyj, cashy72, musky...i'm sorry things are hard and i hope they're much less rough very very soon. just wanted to pass along the observation that i think being off the remeron for almost 4 months has made it easier for emotions to flow through me...the drug helped my depression so much but i think it also had a dampening/dulling effect. i've been having a hard time lately bcs of just life events and i notice that when i cry, it's not that deep hellish pre-AD depression cry but more "normal" crying that then moves through me. on the remeron i very rarely was able to cry when things were hard. it's not that i was emotionless, but my ups and downs didn't always feel natural.
anyway, just in case this gives comfort to any of you...
take care,
jules
