Valium Detox information needed!

Posted by benzoNYC_2000 on April 20, 2006, at 1:03:40

Hi, I just got out of the detox today. I have been taken off Xanax in other detoxes with Ativan and Klonopin, but this particular detox used Valium and I think this worked best for me. I still felt sick when I came home and made a mistake of taking a 2mg Xanax. This time instead of not feeling anything at all (like it happened before), this one pill screwed me up. The mistake I made was not to write down the hospital Valium detox system. Basically, I would appreciate it if somebody could post the detox schedule (the only thing I remember it was a 7-8 day detox and they started me off with 2 5mg Valiums every 4 hours, starting at 9am. Sometimes they would liquify the Valiums, and sometimes they would give me the pills straight up). I know that I'm going to run into problems with benzos again, so I would much rather do this at home than at the hospital. Thanks in advance.

Sorry I recommend the hospital again if you already know you will have problems again a longer program is needed. And everyone's detox is differnent depending all sorts of things only a doctor can determine. Love Phillipa

Thanks for the advice, but I can't do that. I won't be able to go to another detox for at least a month... Insurance restrictions, etc. I got pretty good at detoxing myself at home with opiates... If anybody wants, I can post the Methadone detox schedule (Hospital System), and the Buprenorphine detox schedule (My own recipe).

I went on my own. I was detoxing from multiple substances. My pdoc is only good for getting all the prescription sh*t that I want.

Yep, that's true. If you search hard enough, you can find one that will not give a sh*t about things like that. My internist knows that I took drugs in the past and I told him I was popping 7 sticks a day. He actually suggested a stronger benzo, but instead I got him to prescribe me barbiturates and percocet ;-) They sure do love the money...

not for long... I'm on benzos for like 7 years already. I can't sleep without heavy sedation. So for a while I ended up popping 50mg of Ambien, 7 sticks, a couple of klonopins every night. The only wd's I had were in detoxes... Actually, the worst wd's I had were from heroin. If I could get the hospital schedule from someone then I wouldn't have to go to those places ever again... And if I don't find it (and it looks like I can't find it on the 'net so far)... well, I'll just be writing stuff down when I go to detox next time. There's a possibility that I will go into long term treatment after summer. Good luck to everyone who's in the same boat.

Nope, never even heard about it. Maybe I'll find it on the 'net. Getting into a detox is easy... There's a safety switch in my head that clicks on and I'm there. I have enough will power for home detox, though ;-) Just gotta find the benzo schedule... Or write it down next time.

If you search on the Internet, you won't find many people willing to provide a definitive guide to discontinue Valium. Recommendations seem to vary greatly.

I have seen tapering schedules reducing the dosage by 3%-5% every three days or 10% per week.

Here's a plan for a more rapid taper:

"Start withdrawing the patient on diazepam (Valium), 15 to 25 mg four times daily. Administer sufficient additional diazepam to suppress signs of increased withdrawal (e.g., increased pulse, increased blood pressure, or increased perspiration). Once a diazepam dose is reached which suppresses signs of withdrawal, continue for 2 days then start decreasing by 10% per day. When the diazepam dose approaches 10%, reduce the dose slowly over 3 to 4 days and then discontinue."

I managed to come off of BZDs quickly by taking 3-4 doses a day using amounts small enough to achieve no more than 6-8 hours of relief. You should find that the size of the doses will decrease steadily. It helps to become familiar with your withdrawal symptoms so that you can recognize them as soon as they appear. Don't be afraid to be flexible. The amounts of each dose don't have to be exact as long as you don't take your next dose until withdrawal symptoms reappear. You will be essentially taking the drug only as needed. In this way, you will end up tapering at a rate commensurate with the adaptations your unique biology allows.

It works for me.
