I have been taking Toprol XL (Lopressor) 50 mgs daily and i dont believe it has been helping me much. I have been taking it for social anxiety, heart pounding, etc. Does one have to taper off such a dose--it is a small dose.

I'm pretty sure you do or at least probably should taper for the sake of safety and comfort. But others here can weight in better than I can.I do know, however, that even as low as 12.5 mg is often effectively used (in heart failure)--so although low, 50 mg is not an inconsequential dose.

I had the same question when I stopped propranalol, and the answer was a very loud and clear YES! My doctor told me that there was a fairly high risk of rebound hypertension.

Racer mever heard of that. I was given lopressor 50mg for anxiety. It made me so tired I just stopped it. My pulse was too low on it when I excercised. And no amt of excercise could give me the areobic benfits. Stange. Fondly, Phillipa
