I this dumb? To get on a med, to get off of one??

Posted by qbsbrown on January 28, 2006, at 19:08:03

I'm getting off of the benzos. Tried cold turkey w/ klono, to no avail. I've switched to valium (longer half-life), now on a painfully slow taper (ashton method, im might speed it up a lil).
Horrible depression, tiredness, lethargy and apathy, in a time when i need to be bustin my butt to find a job in a foreign country.

Doc thought i could try lamictal or wellbutrin while im tapering.

NO, no SSRI has ever worked, so don't mention them. And i can't get Cymbalta here.

I'm willing to give wellbutin a chance, just don't want to jeopardize or protract my taper of valium.

What do you guys think? To med or not to med,,,..

PS- I'm now in China, i am my own doc, lol. Plus people here are far more knowledgable than any shrink i've been to in the states.

I've only been to a general physician, who pretty much gives me free reign on what i want to do.

Hi Ed,

A friend of mine has lived in Hong Kong and/or Thailand for many years now. He does not get p care, but I know that the medical care that he has gotten there is on par with the most sophisticated in the world.

While many here don't agree with my somewhat undtraditional theories about holistic and alternative medicine, I get emails from my overseas friend, telling me the same sorts of things that I've said to my friends here about how to attain and maintain great health.

(It's shocking to me that I let myself to take a drug like Effexor for three whole years when I know how sensitive I am to chemicals. Was I thinking that this sensitivity had disappeared? Sheesh!)

Anyway, he is really pleased with the medical system over there. I should add, though, that he can probably afford the best they have to offer. He sent me information about this hospital in Thailand, www.bumrungrad.com, that he went to to investigate a problem that he was having and raved about it.
