So I am stabilizing on depakote, which saved me almost instantly beginning on the first day, from a 3 month visit to hell...mixed mania. Not fun. Very scary. No one ever told me mania and depression could be mixed at the same time. Now I know. Not cool.
Anyway, my zyprexa which I've been taking for 5 years was useless against the monster. My doc wants me off it. I agree. It's time. After 5 years on 5mg, how to taper?
I'm good at cutting pills to custom sizes. I'm thinking maybe 4mg for 2 weeks, 3mg for another 2 weeks, 2.5mg for a month, 1.25mg for a month, 1.25mg every other day for a couple weeks, and then let it go. A 3 to 4 month process probabably.
But I wanted to hear what you all might have for suggestions on tapering off longterm zyprexa. I'm scared to go too fast.

Blueberry Have you tried the withdrawal Board? Or google it. It's so quiet here the last few days. Fondly, Phillipa

Sounds like you have a good plan but some times I fall back for a while and later go back down with better success. I've taken zyprexa for 7 years. I've been tappering off of 10 mg for about 10 months now. I'm currently taking 2.5 mgs. I switched to geodon. Which is less seddating which is a a drawback to the tappering. Depakot is about as seddating so for you it might be quicker.
