Today is the ninth day after I went from 37.5 to none and I am doing great! I was really afraid of what the last step would feel like, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. At first I had some days where I kept forgetting what I was saying in the middle of a sentence, but that wasnt too bad. I had a few headaches, but Excedrin helped with that. The worst part was probably the hot flashes and light-headedness, but considering what I've read here I see myself as lucky. I did notice a lot more OCD the first few days, and was afraid that I might have to go back on SSRIs again after all, but that kind of faded with the other side-effects. I asked my dad what he thought about this (he is an MD) and he said that he has actually had quite a few patients get off of Effexor without much trouble. Anyway, the point of this post is to encourage anyone who might still have some fears about trying to go off of it. And even if you do get hit with the killer withdrawal, just look forward to the sense of accomplishment you will have when you realize that you got off of one of the hardest meds to quit.
