Is or has anyone else out there experienced achiness when discontinuing Effexor? Like arthritis or something, every joint hurting? Every square inch of my body.
When I'm sitting or lying down and I get up, I look like a senior citizen. Thanks,
Margie

The reason I ask this specifically, is becasue I'm considering going to the doctor to see if I have fibromalgia or something.
I didn't have them before I started decreasing my effexor dosing.

You might want to try some OTC allergy medication like Benadryl and see if it helps - I've heard that it can at a low dosage.
good luck,

> I didn't have them before I started decreasing my effexor dosing. You might want to hold off on the visit to the doctor. Some people do report flu-like symptoms, including body aches and pains, upon discontinuation of SRI drugs like Effexor and Prozac. The pain is sometimes mistaken for myalgia.
The suggestion of taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) might work. People on the withdrawal board use it often with reported success, but I don't know which of the withdrawal symptoms it actually helps with. If you go on to use Benadryl, please post your results so we can get a better idea as to what it can and can't do.
How are you going about tapering Effexor? Perhaps a different approach would spare you the withdrawal effects.

I have been having achy muscles since about 6 weeks after I took my last dose of effexor(I had a slow tapering) I had about 2 weeks of brain zaps that slowly tapered off...then I felt good for a few weeks...My last dose was the first week of May 2005 and I started getting the body aches the end of June. They have been coming and going for about 1 month. My bloodwork all came back perfect....Dr wants me to go to a neurologist...but I am going to pass on that that ride this out and hope it subsides. i would be interested in your progress.....Pinky
