Tapering off Effexor and T-I-R-E-D

Posted by Dizzy in Dixie on April 21, 2005, at 9:54:42

Coming to the end of week #2 of tapering off. I am so tired by the end of the work day. My eyes feel totally gritty and I can't wait to get to sleep! Is this part of it too?

I find myself yawning as I lower my dose. I asked the doctor why this was happening and if it was normal. He responded that he didn't know why, but that doctors see this same response in people getting of opiates (sp?). He wasn't concerned.

The more I read, the more I am thinking that the Dr's don't really know a whole lot about the actual withdrawal symptoms! I hate being brushed off! We know these things are real! End of another day and yes, I am tired again!

LOL! I am sorry! That is what I want to know! When will I feel all zippy and happy and full of energy???? I seemed to have back-slid the end of last week with my tapering. I dont know if it was the emotional events (son possibly leaving early to join the Navy-like now instead of June)or hormones but it took much more to stop the zapping! Someone who has been here, done this please tell us will the tiredness go away too?

I can't say that I can relate to your experiences. Tiredness was not a part of the withdrawal process for me. Perhaps those people for whom Effexor produced anxiety or insomnia early in treatment, tiredness might be more likely to occur upon discontinuation or dosage reduction.

When I discontinue Parnate, a stimulating MAOI, I invariably experience a profound tiredness and fatigue that lasts for 1-2 weeks.
