Wow, my second holiday season approaching

Posted by ClearSkies on November 8, 2006, at 9:36:36

As Thanksgiving and Christmas approach, I have much less apprenhension about keeping my wits about me and maintaining sobriety.

Last week when I was trying to do some "early" holiday shopping, I was admiring all the beautiful glassware there is to hold that romantic drink. Hmph, all I had was a boring old regular glass for my precious fizzy mineral water. I decided to splurge and bought myself a lovely handblown, large tumbler. It's green going to blue and has little bubbles entrapped in the glass. It lends a bit of class to my drink of choice.

Now I have my own mocktail glass with which to join everyone in our toasts.

I think buying that glass was a great idea! I think food and drinks taste better anyways in a pretty "holder". Congrats on your sobriety! ;-)

Clearskies,
here's a nice mocktail recipe for your lovely glass

take your bubbly water, add a splash of pomegranate juice (or grape or cranberry) and a squeeze of lime

toast and be merry :)

I have cut back on my alcohol consumption by about 90%. I had an interesting conversation with my pdoc recently. he actually asked me for a wine recommendation. Is that hilarious or what? I reminded him that cheers, to his health, etc etc, but that various mental health professionals had advised me to cut back on this particular (indulgence? vice?) habit....

groan.

Well, I'll be toasting with my mocktail too. I bring my own supplies when I go to a party. Usually I can convince a couple people to try it. Then they're hooked. it's tasty! lo cal too! :)

Some cold green tea, and some goji juice. Maybe we need something fizzy?

Congratulations Clearskies! I don't know you but I have been there before and then making some wrong choices again in other directions. Blaming society or playing "poor me" (lost all of family etc) won't help me either. I am looking forward to being in a place equivelent to where you are again. You should feel good about your success! Sure having a couple drinks would feel good for a short time but when we look at the big picture, that one moment would be very stupid (like I have been recently).

Ginger ale (not the strong kind though I like it) adds fizz but too much sweetness.
Oh, and I like seltzer water with a dash of bitters in it.
