A couple of nights ago,I decided to take some dextromethorphan ( DXM, cough surup)and diphenhydramine (sleeping pills, benadryl). I have tried this combination in the past and it gave me a crazy, wild trip, but i experienced no ill effects. I first took 300mg DXM and 250mg of diphenhydramine. About an hour later, after some crazy visuals, I took 100mg more diphenhydramine but was out of cough surup with only DXM active ingredient. I decided to take 4 Robotussin cough and cold pills(per pill: 10 mg dextromethorphan, 200mg guaifenesin, 30mg pseudoephedrine) to try and get a bit more DXM. I checked online beforehand and saw that 800mg guaifenesin and 120mg pseudoephedrine were not a high enough dose to cause problems. I soon started to have extreme anxiety and difficulty breathing. My heart rate had doubled to that of what it was before ( DXM increases the heart rate). I went in and out of waves of extreme discomfort and dread. I soon became very drowsy and my arms and legs went numb. I managed to keep myself calm and awake but it was a very scary experience thinking I was going to die for 2 hours straight before things calmed down. I am curious to know why this happened. Was this a bad mixture between pseudoephedrine and the dextromethorphan. I know pseudoeohedrine constricts the blood vessels in the lungs and mucus membranes. Maybe my blood pressure got too high?

Were you just trying to get high? that sounds like a dangerous expensive way to go about it. If you had a cold, or are taking psych meds too, that could be a dangerous combo. I find that alcohol added to anything makes fear of consequences much less. I'm trying to stop screwing myself up, and cold medicines have hurt me in a non on purpose way in the past. I thought about ignoring your post, because I couldn't tell if you were talking about a mistake or a failed attempt to get high, then I decided it didn't matter. If you tried to get high that way, please be careful and don't do it again. If you think you can ride it out, then ride it out, if you think you may be in trouble please call for help.
I don't know the science, because my mind is filled with a hundred other things these days, but some of those ingredients don't agree with me.
good luck,

Taking a high dosage of cough surup was indeed intentional, and i have had no help problems with it in the past, besides the fact that it is highly addictive and i'm sure it causes liver damage. I have also combined DXM with the sleeping pills in the past. The mistake was the extra active ingredients, mainly the pseudoephedrine, although guaifenesin can cause chest pains at low dosages. At first i thought it might be a bad reaction with my Effexor i started last month, but i believe i have worked it down to a bad combination between the diphenhydramine and pseudoephedrine. My main lesson i learned from this, don't mix! Thanks for the post anyways though.
