frustration and pain

Posted by mama141 on November 28, 2005, at 18:58:02

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I realized that I was running short of Vicodin which I take for back pain. So early this AM I called my family doc's office. Suddenly I am told there is a 24hour wait on any prescription...So, here I am left with two pills, which might get me through today, my regular doc is out, so another doctor tells me (via the nurse at 5:pm this evening) that I must be seen by someone before I can get another script...Only appt time -- 9pm problem? This is a small town and both pharmacies CLOSE at yep, you guessed it, 9pm!!
I have a good working relationship with my own doctor in this practice and I am sure his notes are good, but now I'm stuck until tomorrow----ARRRRGG I just had to vent!!!

Do you think the doctor's office would have any on hand to give you until you can get to the pharmacy the next AM?

That happened to me after my car wreck and they gave me a few in a package (also Vicodin) until the next day.

Hope you get help and relief soon- back pain is the worst!

Spriggy,
Thanks for your response. Thanks to a good friend, who had a couple or spare Vicodin, I survived. Also, this doc had ABSOLULUTLY no qualms about writing the Rx -- not only that but he gave me 750's and told me how he hated the "24 hr wait" thing.
You know, I am aware that I should not feel this way, but I really get pissed at those who have not been through back pain trying to judge how I "feel".
Add to that my "history"; and with so many physicians, its "Oh-oh here she comes, watch out, all she wants is drugs!"
Don't people ever stop and think that former addicts can have real pain too??!
Hey everyone, esp Spriggy, just thanks for being there for me!! You guys are the greatest!
Mama

PS: my doctors office will not give out samples of "controlled substances", benzos, or opiates.
