Erin has a serious problem with alcohol. She quit AA and decided to "moderate" her use! Ha! That lasted maybe one or two days and she was back to her same weekend "benders." I liked her better for the short time that she sobered up and went to meetings. SHE was miserable being sober, but it was great for me because she didn't lie to me anymore and she actually listened to me for a change. When she was sober I told her that it was her decision and I wasn't going to judge her either way she went. Well, I don't like her being a drunk- and am so annoyed with her that I don't even want to be her friend. We have been very close for 8 years.
She has recently tried to exclude my hubby from a weekend trip--where everyone was "allowed" to bring significant other (except me, my hubby was NOT asked to go). Erin even brought her boyfriend! I tried hinting to her that I wanted him to go by saying,"Last year I got really lonely," (lonely because all she did ws hook up with men and everybody else was "allowed" to bring their men). Her response? She said that not a lot of couples were going. LIES!! Then, she excluded him from dinner out last weekend. She said, "let's me you and Kristin go out." EVERYONE had a date when I showed up! What the %##@*? Erin hooked up with a guy and suddenly I am sitting at the table twiddling my thumbs. Not fair!
My other concern is that she isn't eating. She doesn't eat at all and probably doesn't have $$ for food. Please don't tell me to go to a meeting for friends of alcoholics. I really don't want to do that. Please help me...and Erin. I told my mom about it and it made her cry. It is just sooo sad. She used to be a good person.

Unfortunately your friend has to seek help herself. You might benefit from an Al-Anon meeting. It would help you understand what she is going through...
People can't change other people, even when they are trying to help them get better. it's up to us to help ourselves, ultimately.
