I was just wondering if anyone is interested in sharing their thoughts with me.... Why is being sober hard for you? I feel so at ease when I am not sober. It is soooo easy for me to interact with others when I am high. I feel comfortable, and happy. I want to feel that way without any pharmecutical aid!!! Share with me people! Please?!?!?!?

Hello, stranger :-)
For me it's a self esteem issue. I don't think that people would be interested in knowing me straight, so I have hidden behind drinking in the past.
I know that I have to develop stronger coping skills = a better self image so that I am less vulnerable to slipping up. The associated guilt of feeling like I failed is crushing.

My mind starts aching, Lord it wont stop.
Thats how it happens living life by the drop.
(song by Stevie Ray Vaughn- life by the drop).
^That has been my "theme song" for as long as i can remember.
Alcohol has always been the only thing to numb the pain for me and i have now been sober since July 10th except for this past monday night where i ended up being hospitalized as a result of a very dangerous slip. I just checked to see if i was still a drunk and i am.
I do know what your going through and it sure aint easy. I wish you better luck than me.

People like drugs because they're fun. Why can't we have fun without drugs? Little children manage it. 'Except ye become as little children..'
Even teenagers manage it.
Horses, for example, stand around without saying or doing much enjoying each other's company.
For me it's dealing with feelings of impingement.

I "check" to see if I'm still an addict all the time, unfortunately that usually leads into the ole twenty steps backwards sort of routine. You know how it goes.
This is the end of the thread.
