is the benzedrex inhaler stimulating?

Posted by superRitchie on November 16, 2003, at 19:38:02

Yea, i use my benze inhaler when my nose is all plugged. But i read somewhere that its a stimulant (proplhexedrine). Ive experimented to see if it would give you a buzz, but its not really noticalble. Does any one know if its a CNS stimulant? or it only effects you sinus. Just wondering, thanks for any info.

Yea buddy! Benzedrex is definitly stimulating and is far more so than ephedrine/caffiene. I am an avid fan of dexedrine/adderal and found this to be very simular. Two inhalers is more than enough for me. I just let the wicks soak in very hot water for a few minutes and drink. I advise against swallowing the wicks. The taste (as you probably know)is horrible and limits the use of this.

I'm impressed that you could drink it. Propylhexedrine used to be marketed here as a diet tablet, (and for all I know still is) called Eventin (25mg). No worse than Ritalin as an experience, more fun (? I used to think so) and not as useful. I tried it with an inhaler once but it didn't seem worth it. If it had been a benzedrine inhaler I would have persisted.

Gesse, I think it's terribly irresponsible of you guys to tell someone to do something so ill-advised. Why do it?

Noone is telling anyone to do anything. It's the substance use board, and as such.....

I wasn't intending to guide anyone in "benzedrex addiction", I haven't even touched the stuff in months. I happened to come across the subject and decided to share my experience. But for what it's worth, I should mention that I would not recommend it. It is simular to dexedrine and adderal and has the same nasty side effects. Sorry if I came accross wrong.

O gee, in a lifetime you do a lot of things, many of which are not to be reccommended. I last took propylhexedrine maybe 25 years ago. I'm just impressed that you could even approach the wicks.....it was just misspent youth, that sort of thing.

Please don't post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down. You've reached the cap of a year, so I'm going to block you again for that time.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

I think back in the fifties these inhalers actually contained some honest-to-God stimulants, but not any longer. Kerouac mentions munching them to obtain a wire. Now only the myth remains. When I was on the streets in San Francisco someone told me I could get high munching the contents of a benzedrex inhaler. I was very disappointed. Just had a lot of menthol-flavored burps.
