I am on Effexor 150mgXR. I am not sure if this is contributing to the problem. From the time I get up to the time I go to bed I go on a rollercoaster ride starting with Coffee in the morning, then after wearing off the coffee I feel more tired leading me to consume an Energy Drink to get back up again i.e. Rockstar,Red Bull etc. Later at lunch I notice that I need a soda now I have been drinkin the Low Carb "Pepsi Edge" when that wears off I am so tired then I reach for coffee to cure that pepsi tiredness.
Anyways this is generally the cycle that I go through time and time again until I either get a headache or its 5 AM and time to go to bed. But I am tired of this up down up down cycle.
Anybody else go thru this stuff.

When I first started seeing my p-doc she recommended that I wean off of caffeine. I was on effexor for about a year and a half before it pooped out for me, but I found that it felt like it exaggerated the effects of caffeine in me; to the point of becoming anxious for about 4 hours after a cup and a half of regular coffee. Now I drink half decaf and half real stuff in the morning at home, about a cup and a half, and that is it for the day. No caffinated sodas or tea. I'm a water person but there are many other alternatives you can try.
I would slowly wean off the caffeine over several weeks and see if the effexor is working better for you. Some people can stop cold turkey but that gave me incredible migraines.

a guy I was in "clinic" with was having trouble with caffeine as well and was told to wean off and not quit cold turkey because of the migraines PC mentioned...
He started with a cup of regular coffee the first day, the second cup was 1/2 regular and half decaf, the third cup was 1/4 reg and 3/4 decaf, et cetera, until the last few cups of the day were all decaf (yes, he was a coffee pounder, too). Then the next day he started with the 3/4 reg, 1/4 decaf, went to 1/2 and 1/2 for second cup and so on, until he was weaned off.
Maybe this will work for you??
All the best,

I'm pretty much the same way. Coffee, Diet Dr Peppers, etc. I try to drink a lot of water and on the days that I do, I feel much better.
I think some of that needing a buzz is probably partly due to dehydration. Just a guess though.

absolutely! The dehydration factor is HUGE... it gives us a headache and makes us feel tired and then we try to "medicate it" with even more dehydrating fluids!!!
Water, water, water... although a lot of people swear by PowerAde or Gatorade to replenish before switching to water to stay hydrated... I don't personally like the taste of them (although sometimes maybe I should ignore what I don't like and drink some anyway!).
Best of luck, xxNightOwl28 !
