I have been addicted to amphetamine, due to a stupid dr.putting me on dexedrine for depression, with a months script,no info or warning. That was back in 1996,neally nine years on and my body has totally become tolorant to the drug, they tried me on 40 pills a day 220mg...and still the same, nothing.I get my script from the community drugs dr,but need ritalin not a major lot for my add which i have quite bad.Yet my dr. says she dosnt think she has a license to prescribe it,as ritalin isnt allowed for addicts...yet i have duel diagnosis, anybody know of a add specialist in manchester uk???ste

Its rare that a Doc gave you Dex for depression.
What dose where you on? 1996-
Where you given 40 dex daily by a Doc or did you self medicate to this dose?
You mentioned trying Meth, does it make Dex seem like aspirin in comparison?Cheers

oh my... that's a lot of dex! and your dr told you to turn to the street? hmm... from other peoples' posts, i was under the impression that prescriptions for stuff like amphetamine, even wellbutrin, were hard to come by in the UK.
i'm sorry for your situation. i sort of am there myself. there has always been the question of whether or not i have ADD-- since i was little, people wondered "inattentive or too attentive, more than we can tell." since i was always high-achieving, i made it without medication until college. in this past year, without a clear answer to ADD or not, the drs started stimulant-type drugs and worked their way up to stronger and stronger ones. i don't blame their decision, really. it wasn't so much a question of ADD; it was more, "ok, this girl looks really tired and can't focus, and this probably shouldn't be the case." so in the fall, i started adderall and switched to adderall Xr, which has been great in terms of concentration and alertness, but it contributed to significant weight loss to the point that my prescribing dr took a lot of sh** from drs in the hospital for giving amphetamine to an anorexic. i've never been under suspicion for eating disorders or body image issues, so this is really a new phenomenon. so the consensus is mostly that this dr shouldn't have prescribed adderall... but the damage is done. i can't function without it, and even though we've started to halfheartedly taper, i've had to increase the dose back, and it really scares me to think about going off adderall altogether.
you mentioned switching to another drug like ritalin. if that works for you, is that a long-term solution? if adderall works for me, and if we can counteract the appetite-suppressing effect with other drugs, is there any clear reason to discontinue? for both you and me, it seems like the initial prescribing rationale might be questionable, but now that the drs have us hooked... should we be punished for it? it is punishment to make us go off of stimulants or is it just good medicine?would appreciate your insight.
This is the end of the thread.
