Ah, the sweet beckoning ...

Posted by saw on September 13, 2004, at 1:52:53

I am at risk of losing everything that matters to me. I do and say things when drunk that don't even fit my personality description. The saying is that your true colours show when you're drunk, well I'm finding that hard to believe. Learning that I did this and that when drunk, all I can say is NO WAY, that's not me. But I don't learn! The sweet beckoning of oblivion and the destruction of guilt, surpressed and repressed again by the beckoning, and then regurgitated with sobriety. It's a vicious cirle with no way out.

I know that the end of the circle is when we stop drinking. There are those who say, "just don't drink." How can it be that easy???

Actaully, I was told "don't take that first drink" and for some reason that really helped me. Instead of "I'll just have one," which always set me off because of course, one leads to two to the whole bottle.

I also found Smart Recovery and go once a week. We have a great group and that helps me a lot.
