Trying to stay opiate free after bupe.Naltrexone ?

Posted by sofarsogood on July 7, 2004, at 21:50:57

After a long hx of opiate abuse (see Medication assisted w/d 2 thUmbs up). I am now a month or so clean(after using bupe ). I no longer have the feelings of anxiety that I was experiencing at first. I have no motivation to do much. I am having cravings but its more of just not wanting to feel"low" than a "I need opiates".I am suppose to start the naltrexone but for some reason I keep putting it off. I have had valium for the last few weeks ,and now IM out. Thats when the cravings begun.I will start the naltrexone tomarrow as I hear it helps with cravings.Strange thing when I was on the vaium I had energy, felt motivated and felt pretty good in general.Who knows . Anyone with personal experience on naltrexone or info on the way things are working out for me . Please feel free to add. Thank you .

sofar, hi its me again. go slow with the nal because it can cause depression, with some. if you notice you are feeling down all of a sudden then you will know why. this sstuff is in suboxone too, and i could tell right away cuz it made me really sick. they ended just giving me subutex to take home. so be careful, ya dont need additional depressants now. by the way good job, wow, one month youre an inspiration.

Good to hear you are doing good Arrie . I was on the bupe for six weeks or so . went from 16mg a day of subutex 8mg am 8mg pm down to 1mg suboxone a day.5mg am .5mg pm.If you would like a detailed dosing schedule I was on let me know .I still have not started naltrexone nor do i think i will. I was put thru a test recently. I broke a rib in a boating/tubing accident. I sufferd for four days knowing alls the hospital can do is give painmeds.I finally did go just to get X-ray. The doc gave me vics and ibuprofen . I only took the ibuprofen.I knew a situation similiar to this one would come up but I just didnt expect it so soon.I must admit the thought ran thru my mind "I could use the vics responsibly".It is quite painfull. The ibuprofen does help.I am still hurting as I write this as its only been six days.I have not injured myself or really needed pain meds in years,go figure. When I started the bupe I asked "What happens if I get injured and really need the pain-killing effects of opiates?". The doc gave me a reasonable answere. First he said dont then he said Give the bottle to my wife and let her moniter them. My addiction has put her in a awkward spot possibly in the future.I am in hopes that I will not ever find myself in the position I was in a few months ago. All in all Iam doing good . Not taking anything . Except the ibuprofen and vitamins sometimes. The shrink gave me vistarill its like bendryl to help with anxiety it is useless for this purpose. I use it at night to help me settle in for bed.The bupe served its purpose for me.It got me off the opiates . Now its up to me to stay off.Wish me luck. Good luck to you as well.

I AM POSTING ON ANOTHER BOARD THAT LOTS OF BUP USERS POST ON, AND MAN IT CAN BE A LIFE TIME RELATIONSHIP IF YOU DONT GET OFF IT, THEY MAKE LOTS OF STUFF SOUND LIKE A BIG DEAL AND I WONDER IF THE INFO I AM GETTING IS ALWAYS GOOD, BECAUSE SOME OF THEM LETS JUST SAY... DONT SEEM TO BE GETTING OFF OF IT. NOW LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT, YOU WENT FROM 8MG TO 1? I WOULD REALLY LIKE A COPY OF YOUR DOSING SCHEDULE IF YOU DONT MIND, I AM AT 8MG A DAY NOW AND HAVE 60 LEFT, I DONT WANT TO KEEP GETTING REFILLS WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND? SOME POSTERS SAY IF YOU STAY ON THIS, IF YOU DO NEED SURGERY THEY HAVE A HARD TIME KNOCKING YOU OUT CAUSE YOUR TOLERANCE IS OFF THE WALL, THATS SCAREY UH? ANY WAY, YOUR WIFE OUGHT BE GRATEFUL YOU FACED THIS DRAGON AND SOMETHING ABOUT IT, THE ONLY THING SHE SHOULD BE PISSED ABOUT IS THAT YOU DID NOT ASK HER FOR SUPPORT. I FEEL OK, SURE MISS THE HYDRO, BUT YEAH, LEARNING TO RE-ADJUST, THIS IS WHAT LIFE USED TO FEEL LIKE, ITS ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW, I AM STABILIZING, JUST ANXIOUS TO BE REALLY OFF EVERYTHING, WILL BE HAPY WHEN THE DAY COMES ARRIE DOES NOT POP A PILL TO GET BY.
