Chemist,
Thanks. What about methamphetamine? I haven't taken any, but I'm curious.

hello there, chemist here....as you may have picked up from previous posts - assuming you read them - i am not a fan of methamphetamine, except in cases of extreme obesity or narcolepsy...my answer is a cautious one, and is this: i doubt it, but it's more of a roll of the dice than amphetamine, that's for sure. i don't think a dose that is prescribed by some for ADD (using Desoxyn) is going to irreversibly degrade the number and functionality of serotonergic and dapaminargic neurons, but i should think that given the evidence in the literature that chronic and high dosing would. all the best, chemist

This is the "substance use" (aka abuse) forum, so my question was geared toward that. I suspect a friend of mine is using, and I am looking for evidence to persuade her, logically, out of doing so.

> asorry, went from your one time amphetamine dose question to one time methamphetamine dose. in response to this post, the answer is an emphatic yes, nerotoxic and severe degredation in serotonergic and dopamineric activity, references avaiable upon request. one does not find many meth abusers making the rounds of nursing homes or old timer's day at the ballpark, if you catch my drift: it is the ebola of the drug world, with a fast, dirty burn rate that is self-limiting because most of these people end up dead quite soon after picking up a nasty habit. all the best, and best wishes for your friend, i am no expert on intervention but do what you must if your hypothesis proves true......chemist

I have heard it is much more unforgiving than other stimulates, particularly cocaine, from which one seems to have a better change of recovering.
Thanks again for your input!

I'm going to try (for once) to make a post that's short and to the point.
Stimulants were my "gateway drug", even though psych testing said I have ADD. But I liked them too much and when I could no longer get enough, I was so desperate to not _feel_ that I turned to the only other legal option I had- alcohol. And now I've had more than 10 detoxes since October.
I know stimulants have their place....but beware.
Best wishes,
Caper
P.S. Stimulants also made my hair thinner (luckily I have a lot to spare but it still really upset me) and gave me strange break-outs on my face. Just an FYI and For what it's worth. Vanity, vanity....but I AM a girl after all.
This is the end of the thread.
