I used to do XTC 3 years ago. I quit because I grew up and decided it wasn't worth it anymore. The day after was too painful. I would sit around (the day after) and was totaly worthless. I also did cocaine.
This was on a weekend basis for 2 years. But, it wasn't EVERY weekend. However, I did take about 1-3 rolls in one night on these occacions. I would do an eight ball or more on other occasions. Sometimes it was a mixture of both drugs. It had no effect on my personal life. In fact, I did better then than I can do now.
I have been doing research online and was terrified as to what I did to my brain.
As an adolescent I was diagnosed with depression (before doing the drugs) and ADD. But, after I quit I had really bad anxiety and depression. I thought at first that it was due to my personal life, but now it seems it could be from the drug use.
I also have problems sleeping. This is also a new problem since the drug abuse stopped. I read that XTC use can mess up the part of your brain that regulates sleep patterns.
I have tried the follwing medications: Zoloft (gave me the runs); Paxil (runs, too); Wellbutrin (on it now and like it); Klonopin (on it now and like it); Effexor (just started a 150mg dose) and don't know if I like it yet. As an adolescent (before the drug use) I tried Pamelor and Zoloft.
I am really worried and wonder if anyone has insight that they could share with me. Can certain medications assist me better than others? Thank you for your help.

Jeez, I know what you mean about being freaked out about the long term effects of those drugs. All the info that's out there made me worry even more... I did meth for about 6 months to a year(I can't really remember for sure..lol) about the same frequency you did X, although mine was just about every weekend and sometimes 3 days at a time. Towards the end of that phase I did 8 hits of acid and feel like I havn't been the same since. I had also quit smoking the massive amounts of pot that I used to do every day, which did not help matters, for it was my 'perfect' sleep aid. That really screwed me up and I've been on some sort of 'legal' medication ever since. It seems to be more of a psychological thing with worrying about it, rather than being something really wrong with my brain....who knows?

Meth is one messed up drug. I did one bump once and was awake for a really long time, followed by immense paranoia. It never appealed to me cuz staying up for days at a time was not very appealing. I, too was a heavy pot smoker. I smoked every day- many times all day. Over the past month I have smoked three times. I was sick of wondering if people knew I was high when I was on the phone. One of the main reasons for my pot use was to help me sleep, too. I wonder if it can mess up your sleep cycle. Still trying to figure out why I can't ever sleep. I did acid randomly from age 16-21. I always felt fine after a few days, but was always worried about never comming down while tripping. Drugs are bad! Why did we subject our brain cells to all of those bad drugs?? Oh well, can't turn back now ;)

I'd like to share a little of the small amount of insight I have gained regarding my use of ecstacy and marijuana. I smoked marijuana on and off all my life; sometimes chronically, sometimes not at all due to things like being in the military. ;-) I used ecstacy for about 7 years very regularly. Sometimes I know it was clean MDMA, sometimes not. After a while, it no longer worked for me. All drugs affect your brain my therapist recently told me, when not used clinically, and when gotten off the street, the side effects are worse, of course. There is alot of talk in the media recently regarding the government using MDMA to ease the symptoms of trauma on survivors of horrific incidents such 9/11. It effects the levels of serotonin in your brain also. I honestly feel I would not be alive now if it wasn't for my ecstacy self medication, and am going to discuss it even further with my doctors as my treatment for a recent diagnosis of PTSD. Although, I am on week 3 of effexor xr and am hoping I can refrain from smoking pot. The research I have found makes me believe continuing to smoke pot will certainly not help me heal in the long run. As well as the fact that my substance abuse was a symptom of a deeper condition. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. =)

I have done x probably less than 10 times and never more than one at a time. The first time I was terrified!! I thought i was going to die. I was not at all accostomed to how different drugs make you feel so i did'nt expect it to be so overwhelming. I smoked alot of pot from age 15-17 but then i just stopped all together. When I was 18 I tried X. I have only ever done it at home with my long time boyfriend. I strongly feel that it is because of X that we are still together. I know that may sound bad but we have both had issues with REALLY opening up. I am now 21 and we have been together since we were 15. It's been nearly a year since we did X because I am afraid of how it will interact with my Zoloft and Depakote. Also I do become very depressed for at least a couple of weeks afterward. So I am not saying it's good but I'm not saying it's all bad either. I think it's a very personal choice. So that's my experience. Be careful out there.

Hi
Did you happen to see Prime Time the other night?
Peter Jennings did an amazing examination of E. The upshot was that the Govt's so called science was bogus! And that there is NO PROOF of brain damage from using Ecstacy. According to a German study, only 4% of people using E had their Seratonin depleted and it was minor AND it reversed itself completely when they stopped using it for a few months. The deatths are rare and usually involve either toxics in bogus street forms of E and/or other substances that the folks were taking.
The whole show basically disproved the Govt's false claims all designed to CONTROL the widespread use of what looks to be a very beneficial experience for many.
Anyone know where I can get some???????? :) I'd really like to experience it for myself under the right circumstances, for spiritual reasons rather than RAVE.
Thanks
Magee

Hi,
I did see the report Peter Jennings recently presented regarding MDMA. I was thrilled to see people expressing on network primetime television how I have felt for close to a decade. From my own personal experiences, I have no doubt that there is definately a medical use for MDMA in our society today, if prescribed and monitored clinically.Imagining that our Government will continue to keep a much needed drug illegalized is beyong my comprehension. We can only hope that the United States will properly and honestly test the effects of MDMA, and reconsider whether illegalization was ever necessary.
Thanks for listening...

Hi Beth
Thanks for the feedback. Our society is so Neanderthal!!! The Govt is all about FEAR POWER and CONTROL. They have no true intelligence or natural curiosity (much like our current President).
Ah, well. Hats off to Peter Jennings for his courage to report this story.
Truth is better than anything.
The Truth will set us free to make our own informed decisions.
After all, we live on the Planet of Free Will.
But it doesn't feel like that sometimes.
Peace,
