Ativan advice

Posted by PeggyY on April 2, 2004, at 13:02:26

I have a history of valium addiction. I have been off benzo's completely for 4 years. I am in recovery. My doctor just recently prescribed a low dose of Ativan. Has anybody any success with Ativan to manage anxiety without getting addicted to it??

Peggy isn't Ativan a benzo?? I have been on Valium a lot in my life and was never addicted so you have a shot as long as you can stay at a low dose and NOT dose up...can you?

they are closely related benzos.

Think of these other options:

Anxiety: SSRIs, Buspar, Effexor, anticonvulsants - exercise, meditation.

Try not to kid yourself on this one. Ativan is reinforcing, and I have taken it by prescription.

Don't even thing of the different names or slightly different half-lives. A benzo is a benzo.

Your doctor knows you have this addiction history?

Yes, He knows I have an addiction history. We talked at length about it when I first saw him. I can't imagine that her forgot?!?!? Anyway, I couldn't handle the ativan if I was in control of it. However, I could give it to my husband and he could dose it out to me at the time I am supposed to have it. I guess this is the only thing I would consider. Even that though I am unsure about.
