hi bobby...it has been my experience that to taper off benzos, it is best to stick with the same benzo and decrease it gradually. switching benzos can have varied effects as they may have minute differences on your system. if you are taking ativan (1 MG),break off 1/3 and take 2/3 of a mg for the first two weeks, then 1/2 of MG for two more weeks, and then finally 1/3 MG for one week. stopping at this point will produce minimal withdrawl effects. realize however that you might not sleep very well for about one week. after that you're good....switching to klonipin isn't the best way to go about this as it may act differently on you than the ativan, even though it is a weaker benzo...best not to switch habits..tapering is the best way...

what and how much are you taking? I tapereed from 6 mg of klonopin (it's easier than xanax- long acting vs short acting- although there's not much differnce between 8 hr. ativan and 12 hr. klonpin) I'll offer any help I can. good luck- judy
