had my first drink of beer at age 2. What do you suppose the psychological or physical aspects of this are?

How much beer were you given? Did you continue to drink beer on a regular basis at that age, and into adulthood? Or, were you given a sip to see how it tasted, and then no more, or only occasionally allowed a taste?

In my Sicilian family, it was not unusual for youngsters (but not toddlers) to be allowed a sip of wine. In Sicily, it's pretty much served with every meal. However, I don't know that Sicilian wine made in that little village is the equivalent of wine we'd buy here.

One sip, never alowed again. Except for rum balls, one or two times, much later.

My best friend's mom once gave her half a beer in her baby bottle on a road trip in the 70's to help her sleep. She is actually a very good mother and was just a dumb kid not realizing what the effects could have been. I think it used to be common to give kids whiskey for coughs back in the olden days as well. I, too, had a sip or two of Daddy's beer occassionally. I think this is a common practice. It probably isn't the best idea but it seems harmless. I think psychologically these acts might make drinking seem like a fine thing to do from a young age. But, in my opinion, it is a fine thing to do as long as you don't abuse it.
