Lexapro-To take or not to take(?)

Posted by Piper on October 17, 2003, at 21:08:02

I've been taking Paxil for the last 4 months. My doctor prescribed it for me because I was waking up in the mornings in the middle of anxiety attacks. It seemed to work, but it got to the point that all I wanted to do was sleep when I wasn't working and my productivity at work suffered as well. I decided to take myself off of it a short while ago. Of course, I started falling apart again. My doctor prescribed Lexapro 10mg. As I was reading the uses and side effects that are printed out by my pharmacy, I noticed that Lexapro is used to treat depression. I do not suffer from depression and the side effects sound just as bad, if not worse, as Paxil. I thought maybe I could start out with just a half a pill at a time on a trial basis. I'm very small, so it should probably still be effective. If anyone has any thoughts on my ramblings that are stemming from paranoia and fear, I would really like to hear them.

I'm really desperate for some help

I know there has to be someone out there who has read my post and knows something about Lexapro. Please, the wiggins are getting worse and I'm having more than my share of anxiety attacks. I took half of a Lex this morning, but I'm not sure if half is going to be beneficial to me or not. If anyone out there can offer any advice, I would really appreciate it.

Piper,
Try plain old Psycho Babble (at the top or bottom of the main page here you can click on it). There has been a ton of discussion on it.

I am going to try to redirect you there, because that's where meds are usually discussed.

Hang in there,
Shar

Thanks, Shar!
I looked on that page when I first started looking for info on Lex. Apparently, I was already in such a state that I really didn't take the time to look for the answers I needed. Then, for some reason, I couldn't find it again. Now I know where to look and, hopefully, the small dose that I'm taking will kick in soon and I can go back to "normal".

What are "the wiggins"?

Hey, Jane!
Sorry. "The wiggins" is the way I sum up everything I'm trying to fight off; the hot and cold flashes, the edginess, the urge to run or scream, without the energy to do either, the feeling that I have to come out of this skin, the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, the burning in my chest and neck...the list seems endless.
