i am sooo disappointed

Posted by B2chica on December 3, 2005, at 16:55:58

i just can't say how disappointed in myself i am right now. i was sooo hoping to graduate in december. but my advisor (who hasn't been a presence my entire program) keeps sending my paper back for revisions. i s@uck at writing...i know that...that's why i'm giving a presentation, but i have to do this paper also. it s@cks. my paper is 56 pages long and i can't seem to write the beginning or end. (abstract, conclusion) he keeps telling me he thinks i'm rushing it...well of course i am i wanted to graduate!!! so now, if i'm to graduate in december i have to have a decent (approved) paper AND powerpoint presentation ready by wed. at 2:00.
i just feel there's No way. last week i talked to my t about it, i told him i might not, but i was really thinking i was. he said even if i don't graduate as soon as i get the paper done i'm done and its just a matter of the ceremony. but i just can't see it that way. i want it done ASAP!

i guess i just feel i have had no real accomplishments in a very long time and wanted one. well one more disappointment in myself.

sorry to go on and on.
b2c.

hmm...

what sorts of comments does he make?
i find... specific ones most helpful.
suggestions.
along the lines of scrap that and replace it with this.
rather than general comments like 'this section needs work'.

maybe... his comments / feedback isn't so helpful?

i would say... plug away at it...
he might just be being a little obstructive...
but if worst does come to worst
it really isn't the end of the day.
i was really sad that i took longer than most to finish my first degree.
and this one... i've been working on it a good half year longer than most...
but...
so long as you get there in the end...

it really isn't the end of the world.
though i appreciate that it can be hard to miss scheduled completion times...

but so long as you do it...
it will still be just as much of an acomplishment as if you finished on the scheduled time.

i know how disapointing it is, but to wait a little is not as huge as it actually feels right now. Really. I know it still sucks though

no no dont look at it like that! Its an accomplishment that you are almost finished!! Its a huge accomplishment that you are where you are, so many people can't get that far but you have. Its hard hard work.
Dont beat youself up, its not fair. Just remember that you are very close.

i know this isnt going to help but: don't be so hard on yourself. you've come soooooo far. to only have a paper and a powerpoint left is a HUGE accomplishment! these are big things to do, but you've already done most of the real work!

it really sucks to have an absent advisor who decides at the last minute to put his hands in everything so you dont know how to please the guy (or chick), but it's just a matter of learning what his dumb quirks are. you can do this! and once the paper's done, i bet the powerpoint will go pretty smoothly too.

but even if you don't graduate in december, it's NOT the end of the world. if you finish teh paper in january, then you'll have all semester (trimester?) to relax and know that you're DONE. or spend all that time making a perfect paper. it's up to you.

but you're in the home stretch now! you're almost done!

love,
ghost

unless things have changed, i thought that only those with an .edu address could post on students. that's not fair to those of us with something to contribute who chose not to use our .edu addresses, or dont have one.

just my two cents. sorry.

It was changed...but I can't remember when....not so very long ago, though.

From the top of the Students board:

"Posting is no longer limited to those with university e-mail addresses."

:-)

yes it took an almgihty campaign ;-)

but we got there.

anyone can post...

and so now people can talk about returning to study...

or people who have studied can help out people who are currently studying...

and people who are thinking of studying can talk about that...

and you don't have to be a university student (ie be talking about specifically university study) etiher.

You way aheada me B2, I grad H.S. only, barely! (nm)

I'm graduating late too, from the degeree I did during the last academic year. My tutor kept changing what he thought I should do and i had to keep resubmitting for ethical approval (as it involved questioning people about SI), which took at least 2 weeks at a time. This meant I couldn't hand in on time and won't graduate officially until next June.

It's very annoying, but you know you will graduate eventually, and it's better to graduate later with a good grade - you will have it for the rest of your life.
