How are you guys?

I miss interacting with you on a regular basis. I just wanna say hi. I continue to get better so i dont start that many medication threads anymore. I am also scared sh*tl*ss of trying psychiatric drugs. To say that they are unpredictable would be an understatement!

Whats going on in your lives?

Hi there! After nearly four years of being in reasonably good shape, I ended up going into a psych ward for a week. Not so bad actually. Last time I was in a psych ward it was for a month. But now things are going well. All in all, I have a good life - a good job, a good income, a nice place to live, some friends, a daughter whom I love and who loves me. So I get severely depressed sometimes. I try to keep myself alive during those bouts because, once I feel better, I realize what a good life I have.

But it's still hard when I am in the throes of major depression. I feel despairing and hopeless, though I have no actual reason to feel that way.

Looking forward to christmas (which I used to hate). Will visit my daughter for a few days in NYC.

Hi baseball,

that sounds pretty good. I dont really have good or bad phases. I think in that sense i am pretty stable. What made you go to the hospital for a week and did they fix it or did you?

I always get paranoid when i skip a meal!

i think it was mostly time that fixed it, as well as a really wonderful doctor who met with me for 45 minutes every day. I went because I had been having intrusive thoughts of suicide for a couple of weeks and no longer felt I could keep myself alive. Sometimes just being safe and doing daily intensive therapy is enough to kick me back into gear. Over the last few years, I have found that a couple of weeks on 20mg of abilify will help bring me back to normal, but that seems to have stopped working for me. I can't take ability on an ongoing basis because it makes me gain tons of weight.

Hey baseball,

i have the same problem with Seroquel and Zyprexa. You may be able to mitigate this with Metformin. Thats what i do. That and diet and exercise!

Tried Metformin and it didn't help. Also, once I felt less depressed with the abilify, I exercised more and dieted and ate better. It didn't increase my appetite at all. I just gained weight anyway. A lot - 2 pound a week usually. The AAPs can really screw up your metabolism. But therapy and professional support really do help me, sometimes.

I know a lot of folks complain about being in hospital, being locked up, etc. I have always found it worthwhile when I need it and found the staff very professional and dedicated and helpful. In the many times I have been hospitalized over the last 12 years, I had met only one rotten psychiatrist and one rotten social worker. No rotten nurses or aids.
