Dexter - not for everyone, but if you can deal with it, addictive
Mad men - Sort of high concept soap opera, but it's addictive.
House of Cards - a netflix series, two seasons, about the most cynical ruthless politicians imaginable. Kevin Spacey is great.
Homeland (though difficult to access, since Showtime doesn't make their shows available except on amazon, which is expensive). I watched two of four seasons and can't figure out how to continue without paying a lot of money.
Veep - very, very funny.
Louie C - funny but also has these serious and very moving episodes.
Happy Valley - great bbc drama, only 6 episodes, really brilliant.

Current? Current is tough. For comedy, the only current show I am watching regularly is "The Big Bang Theory". My husband finally convinced me it wasn't unfriendly to geeks. He's now trying to convince me to give "Parks and Recreation" more of a try, since I eventually got to like "The Office".
Usually I'd rather pop in a DVD of "Daria" or "Barney Miller" or "Seinfeld" or "The Nanny" or "Everybody Loves Raymond" or "Rugrats" or "Sex and the City" or... Well, you get the point.
I think I may be out of touch with today's culture...
I like drama better. Procedurals more than long complicated story arcs.
What I'm doing right now is trying to catch up on my Marvel comics movies. I get lost sometimes while watching "Agents of Shield". I need to go back to the first Iron Man and work my way forward.
