Hi there. So I just signed up for two classes at community college in the spring. They start in late January. They're both online. I feel like online is all I can do right now. I'm excited!! I feel good about it. Now I just have to find a way to pay for it :P
Still excited! :)

Very good! Education is a way to further everything in ur life. I think that's brave to go into a class & face it all. I was never able to complete college because I couldn't go in to that room full of students. I guess social anxiety caused it. But it's nice that u have signed up & r giving it a shot! : )

I adored school as an older adult. I think it's great that you are taking classes. I think I'd miss the classroom though and not being able to ask questions. I always asked a lot of them. You will love it. Phillipa

For my latest certificate, I took one class online and it made going back to an actual classroom easier for me. If I could have done them all online I would have.

Haha, true! Knowledge is good. I am having trouble with social anxiety (but am really working on it) and figure that going online would be a way to ease myself back into the classroom setting :D

Hi Alex! Can I call you Alex or do you prefer Alexandra? Thank you for asking what classes I am going to take :) I was meaning to post that later. Spanish and geology. And I have been reading the college's website and sometimes it's not all online. Like some tests, and other small group activities might be in real life. Which I am OK with.

Either is fine :-)
> Spanish and geology.
Cool! I have never taken either of those. I have a friend who works on the philosophy of um... paleo-anthropology and he got all excited that I might take geology when I mentioned physical science... But I don't expect I will take geology. Not that it isn't interesting, though. Will love to hear what you learn about! I never got past trying to learn what individual words meant in learning a second language. Not sufficiently motivated, really. I suspect because I've only really had exposure to Maaori (second language of NZ) and nobody speaks only Maaori and not English... So I didn't really see the point. Spanish would be cool. You could go to Spain. Or Mexico. Or... I'm sure there are a bunch of other Spanish speaking countries, too...

That sounds cool, a bit of a blend.
I have tutored / graded for a few online classes now. The most interactive one was 'environmental ethics' which had a classforum set up as a message board. People were supposed to post (at least) 2 quality posts per week. And there were a range of topics... And they were supposed to post to whatever range of them...
Some people really got into it! The classes seemed fairly full of women who were returning to study now that their kids were a bit older / who were sick of kiddy conversation and were looking for something a bit higher... But who needed flexible hours so as to study when the kids were asleep. Some people developed really good friendships out of it. And far exceeded what they were 'required' to put in because they were actually interested in it / enjoying interacting with the people they were meeting.
I hope that you find a cool bunch of people in your classes, too! It can be a bit harder to motivate yourself to listen to lectures / do readings etc without an externally imposed timetable... But then, if you are only doing a couple classes and they are ones you *want* (as opposed to *have*) to take for requirements... Then it sounds like a really terrific way to learn IMHO.
Anyway... It will certainly be something to help you feel busy / to give you a sense of accomplishment.
:-)
This is the end of the thread.
