New skill I've developed

Posted by Deneb on October 4, 2013, at 22:47:25

This new skill I've developed is odd because of my history. I used to be super shy and considered to have pretty bad social anxiety, but it seems that I'm pretty good at public speaking lol.

I do all the new hire training at the place I work and this is the best part of my job.

I love training them. I just love talking to the new hires, answering their questions and doing my presentation. I get lots of compliments on my presentations and I've been told that I'm a natural at it.

How odd LOL.

It seems that I'm actually really good that this.

It makes me wonder if I'd like a career in teaching or something....

it doesn't surprise me. i can be very socially anxious in some settings, but i quite enjoy facilitating tutorial sessions / recitations. that was one of the reasons why i thought you might enjoy working in a library or something like that. i had a friend who runs library workshops on how to do data searches and stuff like that. she enjoyed it a lot. a lot more than teaching secondary school, which she did previously. i guess there would be a lot of opportunities for stuff like that within HR? i don't know...

Hi Deneb,

I'm proud of you, I remember how hard it was for you to speak at the APA convention in Toronto. I still have major social anxiety, but Clonazepam gets me through it.

A career in teaching might be the right fit for you, what further education might you need?

Thanks Scott, thanks Poet!

I've changed a lot as a person. I was always a very late bloomer. I honestly think my brain is slower to mature than most.

Work is extremely crazy right now so it's going to be hard to fit in classes. I'll just keep my options open for the future.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying work, anyway. I remember when you weren't enjoying some of the first jobs that you had.

Congratulations, Deneb!

As my fellow metal rooster has remarked, that is a great deal of progress since the APA convention in Toronto. I still have your Babble magnet on my fridge, by the way. That was such a thoughtful gift. Thank you.

I hope you reflect positively on what I'm about to say. What you have always done is that you have sought a better place. I didn't always know what to say, especially when you were self-harming, but you really were always looking for that better place, even when it went off on a tangent. And once you really got on track, I didn't expect that anything would stand in your way.

You invented the new you. Your words are so affirmative. You figured it out.

Congratulations on the new job. And I'm very pleased for you.

Lar

Thanks! Larry!

It's not a "new job" lol. I've worked here for a few years now. I tend to stuck with the jobs I get and move up.

Right now my hobby is this game. I think you might like it. If you have time for this game I highly recommend it. Babblemail me if you are interested and I will send you an invite.

I've meet people around the world with this game and it has really expanded my social circle.

I don't want to mention the name of this game as I can be easily found here if I do.

I'm a high level player and quite prominent in the community now, perhaps even worldwide now.
