I don't drink coffee, and for this reason. I got the wrong iced beverage today at dunkin donuts, and let me tell you, I am not comfortable. I am jittery, restless, anxious and busy in the brain.
That was at about 5pm. I hate coffee.
My husband says it can't be, because I drink tea and soda, and don't get like this, but there must be way less caffeine from my little Lipton tea bag than in the rocket fuel I drank today. Holy crap!! How do people drink that stuff??!!

There is a lot less in tea hence I drink it also. Starbucks iced coffee years ago precipitated the first panic long lasting attack for me. It was horrible. Phillipa

A few weeks ago I forgot to say decaf at Starbucks. Two shots of espresso. I, too was very, very uncomfortable physically (mostly). I usually have a cup of PJ Tips (British teabag). Coffee has different properties. It's how I got through school. Now I'm a wreck beyond repair and take 10mg of adderall. But no full-on coffee.
Hope you get some good sleep. 5:00 is a little late for rocket fuel.

I know exactly what you mean, (that wreck beyond repair thing), and that is why I am here chewing coca.
I have a plan for when I return, 1mg deprenyl and rhodiola, but it won't work.
I drink a lot of tea at home. 10 cups in a row? Didn't work either. But less bad.

The cocoa sounds just great with a great delivery system.
As far as the highlanders, I thought about that off and on all day.
How did we as a culture come to strive for what is unhealthy for us?

I think there is a Cohen song that starts.....It's 4 in the morning, the end of December....and your excellent question makes me feel like that. I have not even had any maca yet, let alone coca.
Private property taken to extremes is part of it, but only part.
