Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,

If your day is full of family, I hope there's not too much family related trauma.

Hmmm... I think my anxiety is showing. Mother is coming over today. Last time was ok. I need to think this year will be as well.

None for me, family of origin that is.

Christmas has always been hard on me. For the last several years, my daughter and husband and I went to NYC and saw a Broadway show on Christmas night. But this year my daughter was away, so I invited some friends over and made dinner. We had a lovely time. They came at 5 and didn't leave until 9:30. I feel really great about this. On Christmas Eve, I had dinner with other friends and had a nice time. So maybe I can reinvent Christmas. This is the first year in many years where I haven't felt somewhat depressed and anxious. My daughter, last year, told me that she always felt that I felt Christmas was deficient in some way. I grew up in a big family and Christmas was a big deal, lots of visits to extended family, etc. It was probably the only good part of my childhood and I longed to recreate it, but couldn't. So this weekend was good. Fun. Happy.
