sigi, the less humans the better (well, until a certain point, that is).

Looks lovely. And old. So Australia is old? Interesting. I suppose all the odd vestigial type animals and plants (too?).

I'd move there in a heartbeat.

I forwarded the Cradles Mt link to husband. Hope your wife has a very good birthday.

I've already forwarded this.

You must admit, Australian cities pull in some amazing performances and lectures, yes?

In 94 I went to europe for 6 weeks, I saw 4 countrys and two hospitals. Well those storys wouldn't be of any help.

I'd spend more time in fewer places if I were you. Madrid, Vienna and Amsterdan were my favorite places. If biking and windmills appeals to you I wouldn't skip the netherlands.

I think you mean Absinthe, but you would be mentally absent if you drank a lot of it :)

I do like the idea of legal absence :-)

I somehow didn't register before that it had missed being bombed.

Someday....

Nice to see your posts, ed.

There have always been pockets of civilization in The States. Probably more so before they became The States.

I haven't been to Europe myself. My grandparents are from Europe. That count for something...?

Munich is about as good as germany gets, good choice!

Ps: Go to "Hirschgarten", relax on the lake.. You have to in the summer!

Hofbräuhaus if you are into beer and your meds allow it, but i guess thats a no brainer for tourists. Ive seen a bunch of japanese people dancing on the table to traditional bavarian music haha.

The subway system in Munich is perfect.

Been there with school, we were obnoxious "sobriety is lame folks" but anyway. "Deutsches Museum" is worth a go.. supposedly the largest technical museum in the world. Not sure about that but its pretty good.

Have a good time!

You're fine, Lamdage. You're not out of line. I don't read your post as critical at all! I was just being ironic. My apologies. I do wish I have been to Europe. Personally, I feel like I have missed out on alot of experience that traveling can bring.

I feel you.. traveling is great, especially longer term trips were you can dig a little into the culture.

Haha floating i didnt get this!
Theres a funny thing about english.. in the beginning it feels real simple, you picked up words from MTV etc. maybe youve even watched a couple movies and you think you got it all figured out. Then at some point the more you learn the sh*tt**r you feel about the language lol. Did this Cambridge Advanced thing and the last days before the test we just hung out laughing about our english having fun with the language!

Golden SoCal times;)

For some reason i have a different state of mind in socal, more awake sort of. Theres just something about this place. Gonna be back as soon as i can afford going for good.

There is way more sunlight in southern California for starters. A nice light. But it's so sprawling, there, too. There is a neighborhood feel about sections of Los Angeles, though, I found. It's possible to go for a few days without hopping on a freeway in some neighborhoods. Then again, many there love their cars.

I have heard English is tricky because of it's mixed root origins and idioms. I only know Spanish, and that has fallen to disuse. Learning that was pretty direct, except for
remembering what objects were feminine or masculine :P

Don't ask me any German :-). I love to listen to my friend from Berlin speak. German is very interesting. Love the way big compound (?) words are built. I have worked a little through Rilke.

The Rilke? Very much. What about you? Were you forced to read him in school?

I would like to visit Germany someday. Corn fields and trees with some wind sounds very good :-). My Berlin friend says it was a tough place to grow up, but she takes advantage of all the benefits. She loves the US, but it also drives her a little nuts, too.

Hehe no we didnt read any of his work. I was responding to phillipa with the last post cuz he has been to germany.
It is a tough place to grow up in.. German upbringing. This whole hitler psychosis didnt come out of the blue. My mother was beaten with a stick on a regular basis. Stuff like that doesnt just disappear within one generation. But thats not a pleasant topic.

If you visit the right places in germany it is very beautiful indeed. Gotta lace up those shoes and check out nature, very good retreat.

Im amazed at how much you fellow babblers know about europe. Ive always felt that "mood disordered" people are more intellectual than average joe (or max mustermann;) and many have some insane talents, too. Its kind of sad that some of the most talented people are disabled by this sh*t. So much potential goes down a drain with this illness.

Ooops. Excuse me, Phillipa. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I seem to be having difficulty with this thread :P

Yes, not a pleasant topic, but real. Even though the social board is not the place to discuss this topic, I
speculate that my grandparents did not leave their European war experiences behind them. Rather it plays out. There are broom stick type stories in my family as well.

All the more to make walking in a well ordered corn field and in the trees very appealing.

I only mention it because I believe that when mentioned, sh*t should be acknowledged, even if it's just a nod.

You got that right! we have the most beautuiful nature, lots of untouched nature too. It only takes a half day to drive from viennia to amsterdam, that's diagelnal across western europe. To go across this county it takes days, I once drove straight from san deago to new york in 52 hours, in 52 two hours starting in netherlands you could stop for breakfast in austria and keep going all the way to turkey or further but there is no wilderness, only civilization, old civilizations and culture but no nature. europians come to the us for what we take for granted, amazing nature. we have an amazing county what we lack in culture we make up in ingenewaty, I can't think of a word that I know how to spell, americans are the most inventive people in the world. In europe if it says dont cross on red, no one crosses. Americans are rude and put there feet on the seets of trains and cross on red, walk in the grass that says keep off the grass but that is where we get our inventiveness. We approach sience with the same attitude that rules don't apply. Can't type any more to much pain hope it makes sence, not going to proof what i wrote

Torrid Europe was amazing and true what you say driving from country to country is like from state to state here. I did like Switzerland best. Started in Vienna, Got to Switzerland, went to Belgium (small) Holland, Denmark, Back down into Germany and I think first time was back in Switzerland and took a drive around a lake to one of his relatives to France for lunch. Been to Paris didn't care for it. Yes went to Louve, and Effiel Tower. Love Phillipa

Yes its very real.. But like i said the propensity for cruelty and accepting lies have been there way before the war. The blind obedience, too.
Of course what happened reinforced all this again. The fear is instilled.
For sure, since most people run from their past as fast as they can rather than face up to it, it gets inflicted upon innocent children and the cycle of abuse is complete once again. Its very sad..
