yeast infection?

Posted by no rose garden on June 15, 2011, at 21:08:52

I don't know what's wrong w/ me but i'm so itchy...so embarassing i can't ask anybody else. I've never had sex, and i thought you had to do that to get a yeast infection.

It's been about a week and it's so itchy i have a hard time sleeping at night

Anybody know anything? :(

No, you don't have to be sexually active to get a yeast infection. Although I'm generally loathe to do so, I might suggest that you go to any pharmacy and purchase one of the many products available over-the-counter for this type of infection. That is only if: you do not have a fever, and there is no foul aroma associated with the situation. If it is a yeast infection, it should clear up within days with the OTC treatment. If it does not, you must see a doctor straight away.

Lar's right. Any imbalance of any sort can cause it, since all those things are present all the time. It's just a question of degree. One of the biggest causes is antibiotics which kills the good bacteria that keeps the yeast from taking over. Diabetics with high blood sugar can get yeast infections in all sorts of places. Just think of using sugar water in a warm place to activate yeast for bread.

The OTC prescriptions are pretty good, tho I prefer the pill. No mess or bother.

Jeez, the only one I had was a whopper. It came on overnight the first time I took a birth control pill.

Good luck. Be careful with tea tree oil only because I think undiluted direct application to irritated skin can cause a burning sensation.

I have also heard of applying live cultured yogurt topically, but that's third hand advice.
