I'm so excited about Christmas! We decided last minute that we are going to my sister's place for Christmas. I bought her and her boyfriend some gifts. We're having turkey with stuffing and twice baked potatoes! The turkey and potatoes were my idea. I'm going to make some sweet potatoes too, with marshmallows. I'm so excited! It's going to be awesome!
Anyone else excited about Christmas?
We're not doing gifts this year, but I figured I should get my sister something since we are having dinner at her place.
I can't wait for turkey! I bought a fresh 6.5 kg turkey. It's going to be so fun! I think I might buy some wine too.
I can't wait to make the potatoes! I'm putting bacon and sour cream on them. They're going to be so yummy!

That's great Deneb. I have family coming on Christmas Eve and I am making lamb tagine that has about 15 spices in it. Christmas day is boring for me. Generally, my husband and daugter and I will see a movie, then go out to a restaurant for Asian food. Chinese, Thai, Indian. Whatever's open. We don't give gifts anymore. It was fun when my daughter was little, but now it just all seems too commercial and pressured.

Definitely agree with the gift giving. Christmas to me is for kids. Phillipa

On Christmas day? Wow. You must live in a proper city. So jealous.

Yeah, we live in a big city. Before my daugher left for college and didn't come home from a distance wanting to spend time with her old high-school friends, we would go to NYC for Christmas and take in a Broadway show, since Broadway is closed on Christmas Eve, but open on Christmas night. During Christmas day, there are a ton of things open.

I am.
My therapist really knows me by now. He asked "You're having roast beast and yorkshire pudding for Christmas dinner, right?"
:)
Presents are all wrapped in gold and silver and sitting under the tree so they can twinkle in the lights. A refrigerator full of food.
My mother is coming for Christmas dinner. I'm a *bit* worried about that.

Wow, that must look so pretty! We don't have a tree or anything, but I love Christmas trees!

It's refreshing to see someone on the board excited about Christmas. I am dreading it and I can't wait for the day to pass. But then I have my Birthday on the 30th and I don't want to deal with that. And don't even get me started on New Year's Eve.
I hope your potatoes turn out really well and that you emjoy your time with your family.

I am not trying to criticise you, but if you think about the TRUE meaning of Christmas ... before all the commercialism came about, I don't think you would say it is for kids. Look at this short clip from the Charlie Brown Christmas special. I believe that this is what Christmas is all about.

For me, too, Christmas gifts are primarily for children. And for the adults that give the gifts to the kids of course. But I know and care about people for whom exchanging gifts is very important and I've found it can be awkward to share Christmas with them. I guess because we each want to share our way of doing things.

Reading back on my post, I should not have assumed that Phillipa has any Christian or religious beliefs and that quoting something from the Bible(through Linus on Charlie),may not change her feelings about Christmas and that I shouldn't try to change her views on religious subjects. I am sorry for doing that Phillipa.

I should also add that I am not saying that Phillipa isn't Christian but that her beliefs may be different from mine.
I feel like I am digging a big hole right now.

Doesn't look like a hole to me. But if you want, you can turn away from this thread and consider it the dead horse that doesn't need to be beaten any longer! Tough trick to pull off the first time, but it gets easier.

Nah, no hole. I think you did fine - better than fine. It's obvious to me how understanding and open-minded, and fair you are being. I am pretty sure Phillipa understands what you have said.
