My husband is freaking out!!! His Toshiba laptop screen went black and he is in the dark!!! Can't run an internet business now! Will take to Best Buy for opinion but is a new laptop needed and what do you folks like for the money? I hear Mac is most durable but don't know anything about. How about data transfer compatability? I am lost and need help! Thanks in advance. Phillipa

Phil, there were no back-up disc done. I think the workings are fine, just the display can't be seen. Greg

Well I have a Dell and it's been pretty good to me in spite of all the abuse it gets. You can get a nice 15" Dell for a modest sum. Mac is different. It's better than a Windows PC but more expensive and has some downsides compared to PCs. But if you can afford it I say go for it.
If you need data transfer then your technician will be able to pull the hard drive from your old one and stick it in an external USB enclosure and copy your data from that. They should be able to export and import your internet bookmarks and history which I guess would be important for an internet business

I think it's a total waste to buy a new screen for a laptop. It will cost almost as much to get a new one. Laptops aren't meant to last forever.
I would get the data off, and either buy a new laptop or get a desktop, which are by far cheaper.
(dh is a computer guy, so I hear all about this stuff)
Good luck, phillipa

Dh suggests Dell, because they have good support, and the company is stable, and he has had good experiences working with them. I have a Gateway, which I HATE! (dh was cheap when he bought me my computer)

I hope so! Question is, how long until something else breaks. Hence my love/hate relationship w/ laptops.

Exactly my thoughts also and couldn't believe how low prices are now on new computers at Best Buys. I got myself a new Samsung Monitor I think 20 Inches for only $139 pretty good. Love Phillipa
