Day 7 plus 3 hours - no caffeine!

Posted by Kath on September 25, 2009, at 20:08:28

I'm pretty surprised I'm able to do it.

Up until I began this, I'd have at least 2 extra-large Timmie's steeped teas/day - often 3.

I'm still doing it a day at a time; thinking of it any longer ahead than that is too stressful.

Good God I can't even imagine! Although I try to keep it down to a few cups of coffee in the morning, I'm completely addicted. Caffeine - so addictive yet so totally acceptable to society! Why one drug and not another? Life is odd.

~ ~ I know!!! It's just a fluke that I started 'not having' tea! I've known for years that I drank WAYYYYYYYY too much tea. And for probably at least a couple of years I've had 2 or 3 extra-large teas a day! I'd say I'm addicted & I can't quite understand how it isn't way harder. I think the real real secret is that I only deal with NOT getting a tea ONE desire at a time!! In fact, I have never once really thought in my mind "I'm NOT having tea again." I would totally FREAK at that thought! Boy, our minds are powerful! ~ ~

~ ~ Yes! Isn't it amazing? I was talking to my son's (& our family's) mental health worker a few days ago & she knows how I'm addicted to tea! She was saying how very addictive caffeine is - she's addicted to it in various forms. During her training - specializing in addictions - they had to Stop something that they were addicted to for 1 week, to see how it feels & experience stopping an addiction. She said she stopped caffeine & it was awful - & caffeine is probably the most commonly used & accepted drug.

I actually don't think I could do it if I weren't only doing it one tea at a time. It's hard to go places for the first time that I would normally buy a tea on the way! Yikes.

Hugs to ya TC.

love, Kath

I love coffee but caffeine gives me panic attacks so drink tea. Green tea lots of antioxidants in it. Phillipa

Not sure how to weight out the antioxidants versus caffeine's contribution to anxiety!

Congratulations!

No headaches?

I wasn't at all surprised when they decided that post surgery headaches were actually caffeine withdrawal headaches.

~ ~ Thanks!! It's getting a little harder when I really want a tea! But I'm still doing it one 'desire' at a time!! That is seeming to work well. ~ ~

> No headaches?

~ ~ Nope. The first 3 days I had sinus pain, but I often do anyway. But I think it might have been from stopping...maybe not day 1 but I think day 2 & 3.~ ~

~ ~ Wow - I didn't realize that! Makes total sense.

~ ~ Yes - coffee has more caffeine, so that's probably why. I have decaf teabags, but I don't like the taste! Maybe if I put sugar in, but I'm trying to have as little sugar as possible right now. The drink that so far comes closest in providing emotional comfort is Apple Cinnamon tea with cream.
