no sleep

Posted by Phil on July 31, 2009, at 17:07:09

From a guy that enjoys 20 hour naps, I didn't sleep a wink last night..till 130 today. Maybe 10 hours this week. When I woke up 45 min. ago, I had no idea where I was, who I was...nothing.

I've decided this form of mania is like very clean, pure cocaine.

Not all wired
You just ain't tired.

Bipolar is wicked. : )

That's the news from the hottest place this side of death valley.

Must be weird to go without sleep for so long. I get like that very rarely, usually when I am highly anxious, but never for as long as you have Phil. That is crazy making, quite literally I'm afraid!

I hope you get some rest soon.

You probably need your sleep, so I shouldn't be envious, although it comes so easily to me and it's one of the things I do well, apart from run myself down.

The apartments downtown are selling for 2 million each. I'd love to go down to the open day and feel easily superior to everyone else and contemptuous of the decor. I'll have a go, nevertheless.

Me too! In fact, I'm going to tell the unicorns and gypsies in my kitchen they have to leave soon..I need sleep.

I'm going to take 2 Benadryl soon. Two of those will usually put me out.

Why I didn't think of that last night is a mystery.
I think I was just wrapped up doing whatever.

Just like with snorting meth 30 years ago, the clock seems like it's running 5X too fast. Thus meth freaks staying up for days. Awful drug.

I used to sleep weeks away. I would wake up in the morning drink 3 cups of coffee while playing on the computer. When I finished my coffee, I'd go back to bed and sleep till about one. I mean I still do that all the time.

It has been so long I can't remember when I stayed up all night and even then, rarely did it.

That's what is so bizarre about this disorder. I thought it was controlled then wham, virtually no sleep for a week???? And my body isn't wired but I can write all night on this forum and others.

It makes me think, what's around the bend?

Phil...

You should SERIOUSLY consider a 5 or so mg dose of Haldol 2-3x daily for a few weeks. Maybe even 25-50 mg of Largactil...majority of dose at bedtime. (No, NOT Lamictal..lol) These states aren't good at all, to be in.

Best,
Jay

Thanks Jay..Don't know why I've waited but will call on call pdoc tomorrow. It's 220 and I'm still going. Totally f#cked.

I haven't had this before and all I can think is what else this disease will have in store for me.

It sounds more like the Pristiq.

Wellbutrin and Effexor were like poison to me. I know they help a lot of people, but they really were very bad for me. Now, I refuse any meds that describe themselves as acting on NE.

But once I was off and my system shook it off, I went back to what passes for normal for me.

I've been off Pristiq for around a week. There's no doubt. I'm full blown manic right now. I took one of those 7 question tests. If you had 3 you were manic. I had 6!!!

There are other reasons I know but I have things to do, not now, right now. lol

Well, in my case, the Wellbutrin and Effexor triggered hypomania. Badly. Sleep deprivation does a milder version.

But off it, I don't have the experience.

It didn't stop as soon as I stopped the meds.

Is there anything your pdoc can give you to stop this episode?

Hi Phil - this mite seem like a stupid idea - way too simplistic.

When I can't sleep, I make a mug of warm milk & honey & take a couple of calcium/magnesium pills with it.

It seems to work, but who knows, maybe it's because I usually lie there for a couple of hours before I get the gumption to get out of bed to make the warm milk! Maybe by then I'm ready to go to sleep. But seriously, it seems to work.

luv, Kath

Kath, When one full blown manic, anything like that if trying to stop a locomotive with a fly swatter.

Not a bad idea to supplement drug but mania calls for big guns RIGHT NOW. : }

Great saying! So true when you're in a mania. I'm glad you're knocking yourself out. Disturbed sleep is the first sign for me that things are going to go haywire.

Phil if I was working and your nurse right now you'd have an IM of ativan and some IM haldol. Even that would take a few days to work. Glad you took the zyprexa though. Good luck. Love Phillipa ps wellbutrin sent me to the hospital the pdoc thought I was hypomanic.

Zyprexa will b*tch slap mania now.

15mg.

Must go back to work Monday after 1.75 months unpaid psych leave.

Not sure I'll be awake by Monday.

Kath

What's so weird is it's 'not' exhausting'. At least while you're in it.

Even though I have Zyprexa now I'm still not all that tired.

I wish I had a switch to turn it on and off. I just wouldn't turn it on for more than one day.

Phil wow that zyprexa sure must be strong. Wasn't out when I worked. Wonder what they now use in the hospital? I'm curious though why do a lot of manics refuse to take meds to come down? I know my deceased Father in law loved it. Would last about two weeks then he crashed and sat staring in a chair all day. I just have a hard time trying to feel how it feels. Love Phillipa
