I'm not popular

Posted by Deneb on July 18, 2009, at 16:06:56

I want more followers on Twitter. I wish I had a website or was talented or something. I want more followers on Twitter.

I'm jealous of other people. They have so many followers. I suck. I just have like 2 followers. Do people read my Twitter?

I feel kind of tantrumy.

if you spent all your energy trying to maintain contact and good will with so many people then what room what that leave for quality?
plus, it's important to have people who don't like you and many with whom you are just indifferent

Great advice.

I really screwed myself up in high school trying to be all things to all people just so that I could be popular. I found that the harder I tried to be popular, the less popular I became. Now that I am myself, and the outside matches the inside, I find that popularity comes naturally. As you can see, I am not liked by everyone here at Psycho-Babble, and that's more than okay with me now.

Deneb, are you allowed to show anger at home?

A wise person once said to me
'What would life be without a few enemies?'

I didn't think of it that way. You have a good point there. I think I would prefer quality to quantity.

Yes, I'm just not an angry person most of the time.

That's good.

I wasn't allowed to show anger or be assertive at home or I would be beaten. This is one of the reasons I became a people-pleaser in a way that was unhealthy form me. I felt that the punishment for my being assertive around people whose approval I sought was to be disapproved of indefinitely. I avoided conflict at all costs and tried to be all things to all people just to be liked and approved of. I still have some work to do on this.
