Being that I have been having such a difficult time finding a job as a Graphic Designer, I'm exploring other options. According to what you hear most these days, the medical field is the area that has the most job openings. So I'm trying to figure out what job I could take some short term (less than 6 months) training for (while still working), and make a decent living. By decent living, I mean $30,000+ a year. I've been thinking medical transcription, or billing and coding, or something of that sort. Basically, anything that a person could take training for without other schooling. I do have a good background working with computers, so something involving that might be good. But I am also good at learning new things, so anything that has short term schooling would be something I'd consider. Anybody have any suggestions?

If you have a lot of expertise in graphic design what about web design? The concepts are very related - it's just about translating a good design to the technology used in web pages. You job might be to take a template in a .psd and implement it in HTML/CSS or just to design a template yourself in photoshop. There's a huge demand now for designers for online media.

I actually wanted to do that years ago but was intimidated by all the classes I'd need. But now that I think about it, it would probably be far less than starting a whole new career. So thanks for reminding me! Also, I guess in my mind I was tying in graphic design jobs with web design jobs, and thinking anything related was not in demand. But I guess it makes sense that web design would be way more in demand than graphic design. That's why I like to talk things out here, sometimes you've got to get outside of your own head to make sense of things!

Well that's good to know, I don't know why I thought it was shorter. I guess I thought you just had to learn a software, and I know I can do that. Thanks for the info! Maybe I will consider it in the future.

No one seems very keen to be your sex slave, manic.
But it might be nice, mightn't it?

Hi TC - I was also wondering about dental hygenist.
I wonder if it's possible to contact the Personnel Dept - Oh I guess we call it Human Resources these days! I wonder if they have a list of hospital positions & then you could look into them?
Also, here in Canada - or at least in Ontario, there are government agencies that help people sort out what type of retraining they might do; what types of jobs are options, etc.
hugs, Kath
