This next school year is my last chance

Posted by Deneb on July 5, 2009, at 16:44:12

I've been in university forever. I hope to get my degree once and for all this coming school year.

I'm taking really hard classes, medicinal chemistry, spectroscopy, organic chem lab, geology and biochemistry. I'm worried about medicinal chemistry and spectroscopy. Also I am worried about the lab, but not as much since I would have more than enough knowledge for the lab. It's the 3rd year organic chem lab and I've already taken 3rd year organic chem.

I feel like this is my last chance in life. If I can't get my degree and find a good job my life is over.

I'm a loser in life, socially delayed. I went to a baby shower yesterday and even with a beer I was nearly mute the entire time I was with my friends. I'm a terrible friend. I don't think I'd ever get a good job because I can't talk to people.

I feel OK now, but I know how quickly things can change. I need to start accomplishing things.

I'd been feeling pretty badly but I was too afraid to write about it on the boards. I feel OK now, just scared.

I've been doing some stuff on the list pdoc and I came up with. It makes me feel good to check some things off.

I really need to pass my classes. It is my last chance.

This is really twisted and weird, but I wish I were suicidal. I'm not, but I wish I were. I wish I could just die already.

Maybe life is too scary for me.

I don't feel depressed anymore. I was for a short while, not long enough for it to be actual depression though. Anyways, I am excited about orientation tomorrow at Bluesfest. I think it will be fun.

I think my brain is just coming out of the dark thoughts and right now I am in an in-between confused kind of state. Anyways, I am good. Hopefully these wishes to be suicidal will go away soon.

I went to bed at a reasonable time last night and I woke up at a reasonable time today. It feels good to have my days back. :-)

Sorry, ignore this thread

Sorry, sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned the word suicide. I need to stop writing about this.

I don't want to die.

Gawd, I don't know what is appropriate or inappropriate.

Sorry about writing this.

Hi Deneb,
I could relate to your post...been there & done that. It took me over 7 years to get my bachelors for various reasons. It was frustrating & I could be very hard on myself. I had a therapists throughout college & probably couldn't have finished without their help & advice. I remember your post about the therapist to do list & liked that a lot:) Yeah, you are checking stuff off. That is great.

It sounds like you have already accomplished a lot with your course work. Awesome. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other & do your best. From my own experience, when I think in black & white terms such as "the last chance in my life" I get into trouble feeling too much anxiety, pressure & emotion.

Have you talked to your therapist about strategies to get through school? It sounds like the list is a good start...

((hugs to you))

Thanks for your reply.

It's been 8 years now and I still don't have my degree. I've taken some years off and was part time a lot.

Yeah, you're right, it puts a lot of pressure on me. I think there are some people who start university late in life.

Yeah, one way is to find a tutor.

I wish Dr. Bob could be my chemistry tutor. He's taken organic chem right? Hmmm...probably not as advanced as me though LOL. OK, I wish Dr. Bob had a Ph.D in organic chemistry as well. LOL

I wish I won 10 million dollars and I'd hire Dr. Bob to be my chemistry tutor for $300/hour. ROFL. I'd fly him over to Ottawa to tutor me. LOL

We'd solve synthesis problems together and have so much fun! LOL We'd build models and drink coffee together. :-)

We'd stay up late studying and then when it comes to my exam I'd get an A+.

I didn't enroll in university until I was 34. It's never too late, and how old you are when you graduate is irrelevant. No matter when it is, it's still the first day of the rest of your life.

By the way, I plan to re-enroll soon. I want to learn some geology.

Thanks Phillipa and Larry.

Knowing you guys started uni later makes me feel hopeful again. Maybe it's not too late for me too.

I'm going to study hard and hopefully get good grades. I can do this! :-)
