For Jews, this is the first day of Passover = Pesach. Commemorating and celebrating God's bringing the People out of exile in Egypt (Exodus). That's what zen was referring to...and the expression...I'm not sure this will come out right, is a traditional greeting/a prayer, if you will, over the years that could be literal or figurative. As in, Jews living in the diaspora expressing the desire to actually BE in their own homeland by the next Passover. Or, the idea of Israel representing an ideal - being "free", not enslaved by the next year, i.e., free to worship and live as Jews...somewhere...

Sorry if that was clumsy. I am not Jewish. I studied Judaism for nearly 5 years straight about 10 years ago, as I was seriously considering converting, but later found that was not the path for me. So I could be so awfully rusty, and don't mind being corrected...at all...:-)

Google Pesach or passover seder, or anything like that and I'm sure there are still many good sites for Jews and non-Jews alike to learn about this most important holiday...

I see there is a village in Syria where Aramaic is still spoken.

Last night I missed Bach's St John Passion on the radio.
It has, IIRC, a wonderful and fearful fugue with the words
'Let his death be on us and on our children and on our childrens' children'
although curiously, when I earlier tried to find those words in John I could not.

I went to a music festival instead, by the end of which I was feeling really dreadful and, as the night went on, more drunk.
I need reliable (and therefore hard) drugs if I am to to enjoy such events.

Some nights ago I was listening to Messiah and the clouds across the moon formed mauve bars, and the flecked clouds above and the sea below reflected the moonlight.

It wasn't bad, with Handel in the background.

Peace to everyone.
